Gogglebox fans were left in hysterics after one of the show’s stars compared his own face to the dishevelled on-screen look of a Hollywood legend.

Stephen Lustig-Webb, 52, a fixture of the Channel 4 series from 2013 until 2023, took to Instagram after he noticed a star of the big screen resembled a look he had many years ago.

That’s because Gary Oldman’s look for the new series of Slow Horses seemed awfully familiar, especially to the man he now apparently resembles.

The Apple TV spy thriller returned for its third season in November 2023 and has become a hit with viewers over the Christmas period – and it seems Stephen has been paying close attention.

In the series, Gary, 65, stars as Jackson Lamb, the head of an administrative branch of MI5 where failed agents are sent to ‘endure dull, paper-pushing tasks’ while their superiors wait for them to quit.

Jackson Lamb is described as a slovenly, rude boss in the series and the character has become known for his somewhat dishevelled look, which has caught the eye of the Gogglebox star.

On Instagram, he shared a side-by-side photograph of himself from an earlier season of Gogglebox, pairing it against a recent promotional image of Gary in character.

Saying only, ‘Slow Horses’ and ‘Uncanny’, Stephen tagged Gary in the photo while fans of both Gogglebox and Slow Horses couldn’t control their laughter at the comparison.

One user, Jamebe17, said: ‘Sorry, I thought they were before and after pictures,’ joking with Stephen, who appeared in dozens of episodes of the hit Channel 4 series, which is narrated by Craig Cash.

A second user, Carly Hauxwell, remarked that she had already mentioned the resemblance between Gary and Stephen to a friend – it’s not yet known whether Gary has seen the comparison himself.

Two of Stephen’s followers admitted that they had both spat their tea out over their phone screens after happening across his post on Monday afternoon.

One famous face, Hollywood actress Minnie Driver, best known for her roles in Good Will Hunting, GoldenEye, and Tarzan, joined in with the laughter, sharing a laugh-crying face and a fire emoji.

In October last year, Stephen was all set to take part in Dancing On Ice but was forced to pull out due to an injury that required surgery and a lengthy recovery.

During training for the series, he unfortunately broke his ankle, which ruled him out of the series that has seen Holly Willoughby make her return to TV after several months away from the limelight after she quit This Morning.

His place in the series was taken by Michael David Edwards, better known as Eddie the Eagle, who, in 1988, famously became the first British competitor in the ski jumping event at the Winter Olympics.

Watch Gogglebox on Channel 4 and All4.
