Love Island All Stars kicked off with the return of some of the series’ familiar faces, but not everyone was happy with ITV’s selection.

Some viewers were pretty savage about the options on offer for the ladies, which included Toby Aromolaran who previously struggled to pick one woman, the man who cried over his love for Craig David – Anton Danyluk, and the owner of the catchphrase ‘You’re my girlfriend’ Jake Cornish.

Luis Morrison, ‘Messy’ Mitchel Taylor, and Chris Taylor completed the male starting line-up with Callum Jones joining proceedings at the end of the episode.

However, it was only Chris who largely escaped criticism.

Viewer Ruby Naldrett remarked: ‘Chris is the only non-evil man in that villa. It’s looking bleak for the girlies.’

The statement quickly racked up the likes, with over 4k people hitting the button in agreement.

The islanders were paired up by the public but before host Maya Jama revealed the official couples, the girls were asked who they’d like to be with. Chris, 33, was the most popular with Hannah Elizabeth, Georgia Harrison, and Kaz Kamwi all selecting the alumni, who had a cameo role in Barbie.

‘Chris having three women is so real cause he’s cute,’ wrote X user Mya.

While fellow Love Island fan Luke Collen can’t wait to see more comedic moments from the man of the hour: ‘Forgot how funny chris was omllll this is gonna be great.’

Demi Jones was also interested in Chris (who’s previously been in her DMs) but admitted that seeing so many people pick him made her go with Luis. Lucky for her, the public put Chris and Demi, 25, together.

The episode also saw Jake, 26, and Liberty Poole, 24, back in a couple after their breakup just before the final in 2021, which is surely going to lead to some awkward conversations that we’ll get to be privy to.

In response to the public’s choice, Jake chose an unusual way to respond: ‘I don’t hate the girl,’ he stated.

Jake quickly realised that it may not have been the best choice of words, and predicted that he was going to be a meme.

They weren’t the only exes for long as soon 27-year-old Callum Jones, entered the villa and Maya revealed that he would be stealing one of the girls from the boys in front of him.

Before he could choose, however, she added: ‘Before you make your decision, there is one more all-star you could choose from.’

Callum’s ex whom he split from six months ago after three years together, Molly Smith then entered the villa, leaving the other islanders gobsmacked.

The other couples selected by the public were Anton and Hannah, Luis and Georgia H, Mitch and Kaz, as well as Toby and Georgia Steele.

Some viewers were hopeful we could have a good series, with some praising producers for the Callum and Molly twist.

‘I actually think we’ve got a good season going here,’ wrote X account Katelynn Mensah. Fingers crossed!

Love Island continues tomorrow on ITV2 at 9pm.
