Hannah Waddingham has corrected Laverne Cox after her name was mispronounced during an interview.

Overnight, the Emmy Awards took place in Los Angeles, with stars hitting the red carpet before the ceremony.

Ted Lasso actress Hannah, 49, was nominated for the third year in a row for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

However, before the award was handed out, there was a somewhat awkward moment that played out after Orange is the New Black star Laverne, 51, seemingly had no clue what Hannah’s surname was.

Hosting the Live From E! Countdown to the Emmys, Hannah approached Laverne, who then referred to her as ‘Hannah Waddington’.

Addressing the mistake, Hannah jumped in to correct her and said: ‘Waddingham. Let’s get that right, straight away.’

‘Tell me, say it again,’ Laverne asked, but then managed to mispronounce the name again in a new way, saying ‘Hannah Wattingham’.

She then imitated Hannah’s English accent, adding: ‘I love you so much.’

Soon after the interaction, many people shared their thoughts on social media, with most saying Hannah was well within her rights to make sure her name was said correctly.

‘Very uncomfortable watching Laverne Cox butcher Hannah Waddingham’s name,’ Jessica Shaw posted on X.

‘First it was “Waddington” and then it was “Wattingham”. Adding insult to injury it doesn’t seem she knows this was Ted Lasso’s last season.’

‘Is Emmy Award winner Hannah Waddingham and it’s her name. Besides she corrected Laverne in the most polite way possible, and she had all the right to do so,’ user StarcoVision shared.

Hannah was nominated for her performance as Richmond FC owner Rebecca Welton in Ted Lasso but the award went to The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri.

She won in the same category for the show’s first season in 2021 and was nominated again in 2022 but missed out to Abbott Elementary’s Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Although it was seemingly confirmed Ted Lasso had wrapped up, last year Hannah’s co-star Nick Mohammed, who played Nathan Shelley, sent fans into a frenzy when posting an old photo from set.

In November, six months after the finale hit screens, Nick posted a photo on social media of him smirking at the camera and wrote: ‘One year to the day since Ted Lasso wrapped. And one year to the day that I accidentally posted this spoiler of Nate in AFC Richmond kit! Promise it won’t happen again on season 4- now wait’.

Although series creator and star Jason Sudeikis never explicitly confirmed the show was done, before the final episodes were released, he did say it was ‘the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell’.

Ted Lasso is streaming on Apple TV Plus.
