Twitch streamer HasanAbi interviewed the Houthi pirate but might regret it (Picture: Twitch)
Twitch streamer HasanAbi interviewed the Houthi pirate who went viral on social media, but his fans and peers aren’t impressed.
The ‘pirate’, Rashid Al-Hadad, is part of the Houthi faction, which has been attacking commercial vessels since November 19, leading to air attacks from the US and UK.
Via a translator, HasanAbi asked questions about the conflict in Yemen, and his thoughts on the war between Israel and Hamas, as well as if Al-Hadad had seen anime show One Piece.
The interview didn’t go down well with fans, however, as many have criticised the streamer for giving Al-Hadad a platform.
‘Yeah IDK [I don’t know], Hasan is cute-washing a literal terrorist on the biggest streaming platform. You can like or dislike Hasan, but he’s cute/funny-washing a terrorist to a young audience,’ ShelterAppropriate said on Reddit.
‘Literally how is this allowed on Twitch?’ said Latter Golf.
Fellow streamer Destiny, whose content is often focused on politics similar to HasanAbi, went as far as to call him a ‘cringe LARPing loser’ on his own stream.
There are some who doubt that Al-Hadad is a pirate, despite him being seen on a a ship in one of his videos with the caption: ‘The ship is now our right, don’t turn it around.’
HasanAbi hasn’t yet commented on the criticism of having him on his stream, but one of his recent tweets reads:
‘I interviewed the Yemeni ‘pirate’ yesterday and all he cares about is freeing Palestine! Turns out, he’s not a part of any militancy, according to him, and is 19. Spent most of his life being bombed.’
