It was a bombshell night for the ages on The Traitors on Thursday as one Traitor turned on another to push themselves closer to the big cash prize.

But behind the scenes, host Claudia Winkleman has admitted to feeling that the ‘murders’ of women on the reality gameshow have begun to look ‘problematic’.

The aim of the game is to be the last one standing among the Traitors and Faithfuls, with the Faithfuls attempting to find the Traitors first before the Traitors ‘murder’ them, kicking them out of the game.

But it appears that the Traitors’ choices for their murders over the show’s first two seasons have raised doubts in Claudia’s mind – she’s now revealed she wants a ‘conversation’ with the Traitors over their kill lists.

Speaking to the BBC’s Woman’s Hour, she was asked whether the series might be causing a problem for itself with the number of women and people over 65 being sent home.

‘I would like to sit down and have quite a few conversations about it. I don’t want to [give away spoilers on air] because what if people haven’t watched?’

The first person to be murdered in season two was Aubrey Emerson, 67, while the first person to be banished was Sonja Clarke, a 66-year-old woman from Lancashire.

Since then, all four of those ‘murdered’ in season two have been women – Kyra Johnson, 21; Meg Corrick, 22; Tracey Griffin, 58; Diane Carson, 63 -which has had Claudia raising her eyebrows.

Claudia also questioned the age profile of those murdered after Aubrey, 67, was sent home (Picture: PA)

‘I mean, lots of people haven’t [watched the show] and they’re listening now and they go “Oh, this sounds all right”, so I’m not going to say any names [of those murdered], but yeah, it’s problematic.’

She continued: ‘But then you’ll carry on watching and you will see [the age and gender profile of those being eliminated]. And that is all I can say.’

In season one, five of the eight people murdered by the Traitors were women, and across both series the first Traitors to be banished were also women – Alyssa Chan and Ash Bibi.

However, so far this season, six men have been sent home overall, with the most recent of those being Traitor Paul Gorton, 36, who has already been named as one of the greatest reality TV villains of all time.

In a sensational episode, Paul, who long believed himself to be the mastermind of the Traitors operation, alongside Ash, 45 and Miles, 36, and Harry, 22, was banished after Harry – his apparent Traitor protégé – turned on him.

It didn’t take long for the remaining contestants to turn on ‘Darth Paul’, with only Jaz Sing, 30, coming close to being sent home instead. It was a night that also saw Andrew, Jenkins, 45, become a Traitor.

The Traitors continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One and will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
