Big news for everyone who grew up watching Selena Gomez in Wizards of Waverly Place – a sequel show is in the works but not everyone is thrilled.

The hit Disney Channel show is back, this time focusing on Selena’s on-screen brother David Henrie (Justin Russo) as he teaches a young wizard how to control their powers.

While original cast members, including the Only Murders in the Building star, are set to return, star Dan Benson took to TikTok to lament his move into adult entertainment.

The 36-year-old actor was much loved as Justin’s best friend, Zeke Beakerman, and appeared in 32 episodes of the Emmy-winning show which ran from 2007 to 2012.

However, he has since ditched acting entirely and started making adult content on OnlyFans – raking in a fair amount of money doing so.

‘Are you kidding me, today they just announced that they’re bringing back Wizards of Waverly Place in a sequel. Are you kidding me?’ Dan said in the video.

He continued: ‘I mean, one – yo, that’s hype but oh boy. Oh boy, what have I done?’

Laughing, slightly maniacally, the star reflected on how he had ‘waited like 13 years’ for his hit show to return only for it to happen a year into his alternative career.

He added: ‘Dan becomes a porn star, let’s reboot Wizards again. You guys suck.’

Dan previously revealed how he was left penniless, despite his frequent roles on Disney, so made the brave decision to change direction and is now earning ‘scary’ money.

The former Disney actor laughed and said he was only joking but did ponder what they would do with his character since he was crucial to Justin’s life in the original.

He asked: ‘They just act like he doesn’t exist? Do they recast him? Oh my god is there gonna be someone else playing – no!’

A pilot episode has reportedly been ordered for this follow-up, which will be executive-produced by David and Selena – who is set to appear in a few episodes.

David will return as a series regular along with new cast members Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele and Mimi Gianopulos.

The show sees an adult Justin, who has given up his powers for a life with his wife and children, pulled back into the wizarding world after an incident at the magical WizTech school.

Who else was in the cast of Wizards of Waverly Place?

The original cast included David, who went on to star in How I Met Your Mother, and Selena, launching her into superstardom.

Rounding out the Russo siblings was Jake T. Austin as younger brother Max, who has since starred in The Emoji Movie and Adverse.

David DeLuise, son of comic Dom DeLuise who worked with the likes of Burt Reynolds, portrayed dad Jerry while Maria Canals-Barrera starred as mum Theresa.

Another recurring cast member was Jennifer Stone as Alex’s best friend Harper and Dan’s on-screen love interest, who now hosts the Wizards of Waverly Podcast with David DeLuise.

It’s unknown if the rest of the Russo family or other original series regulars will return for this new series.

Selena confirmed the reports with an Instagram story of her and David in the show, simply saying: ‘We’re back.’

There is no current air date for the new series but it is believed to start production in 2024.
