Jason Momoa has said that he needs to do ‘a really good film’ that will receive plaudits during awards season.

The Aquaman star, 44, reflected on the fact that ‘none of my movies are going to the awards’ in a new interview, getting pretty candid over what he thinks he’s achieved in his career so far.

Suffice it to say, this left some of his fans rather aghast.

According to the actor, who recently finalised his divorce with ex Lisa Bonet, he feels that there is still ‘so much to do’ – despite having been in one of the biggest TV series of all time thanks to his breakout role as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones.

Let’s not forget, either, that he is a DCEU star, a recent Fast and Furious villain and starred in the 2021 adaption of Dune (which did, actually, nab six Oscars), alongside Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Oscar Isaac.

While discussing his new show On the Roam, an unscripted travel series streaming on Max, Momoa also admitted that he ‘[doesn’t] really think [he’s] done anything so far’ and isn’t really an expert at one thing in particular.

Discussing his blockbuster career, Momoa told Variety: ‘There’s some movies out there that I gotta go back to, and I’m sure if you did your homework, you’ll know what movies I gotta go back on.

‘I’ve just never been a part of movies that – none of my movies are going to the awards. I’m not really that guy. So maybe one day it’d be nice to do one of those kinds of movies, where it’s a really, really good movie.’

He also revealed that comedy has been a really big passion of his, and one he ‘really went after’.

‘SNL let me on twice. I tried Slumberland and it did OK. I have Minecraft. I’m going to do another comedy-esque action thing with Dave Bautista after that,’ he shared, as well as saying he’d love to do a second season of On the Roam if the interest is there.

Lots of Momoa’s fans were keen to point how much they enjoy his films (Picture: Warner Bros.)

‘He forgot about Dune,’ tweeted @imhectornavarro on X, while @LachesisHD added: ‘Uhm… Dune exists.’

‘What’s he talking about? Aquaman was a really, really good movie,’ insisted @zerowontmiss, while another user Jeremy, was here for the Fast and the Furious fans.

‘Ummm… Fast X exists,’ he pointed out, while @xkashm chimed in: ‘Don’t drag me but Fast X was dope. I enjoyed every bit of it.’

‘His movies are dope ass… fast and furious was literally it,’ agreed Mikaela Ross, adding a flame emoji.

‘Did he admit his movies are bad?’ asked user @TerryFranconia, to which Mako responded: ‘No he’s basically saying he acts in movies that aren’t your typical Oscar movies (usually dramas, or history based movies) he likes to act in fun movies and superhero movies which rarely win awards.’

He was also a popular villain in Fast X last year, alongside Vin Diesel (Picture: Giulia Parmigiani/Universal Pictures)

And @Real_Dave77 tweeted in support: ‘Heck Arnold Schwarzenegger made some great movies, but never won an Oscar.’

Others had a different take on Momoa’s comments, with @tasimetre posting: ‘At least he’s self-aware.’

‘Some other popular actors need to have this kind of honesty. Momoa has many solid movies in his filmography though,’ added Mia.

Or as Hassan put it: ‘A24 should call him.’

We’d certainly watch whatever came from that.
