A number of hints and backend updates have pointed towards the imminent arrival of Elden Ring’s DLC expansion, so here’s all the evidence so far.

Almost a year after it was announced, it seems developer FromSoftware is preparing to release Elden Ring DLC Shadow Of The Erdtree very soon, but they’re being oddly secretive about it – odd even for them.

When it was revealed in February last year, the DLC was only noted as being ‘currently in development’, with no official release date. The only word we’ve heard since came from FromSoftware producer Yasuhiro Kitao in December, who said that the team ‘still has a little way to go’ on the DLC but that it is ‘progressing well’.

While some expected news at The Game Awards in December, considering host Geoff Keighley previously debuted trailers for Elden Ring, that didn’t happen. A slew of mounting evidence, however, suggests it could be about to arrive.

The latest development comes from Twitter user Ziostorm1, who highlighted how the Bandai Namco America and Southeast Asia YouTube accounts updated their video playlists for Elden Ring on January 18 – suggesting a video has been added which hasn’t been made public yet.

Earlier in the week on January 15, the same update was noticed on Bandai Namco’s European YouTube channel. It’s believed this could be a trailer for Shadow Of The Erdtree, which could either announce a release date or signal an instant shadow drop.

The Steam page for Elden Ring’s DLC also received a mysterious update, labelled ‘Unknown App’, earlier this month on January 11. This is the first time the DLC page has been updated since the addition of a pre-order bonus bundle in May 2022.

The announcement of various new peripherals and memorabilia has also strongly suggested the DLC expansion could be released in February this year. A leaked listing for a limited edition Thrustmaster Xbox controller to coincide with Shadow Of The Erdtree was labelled as being ‘available from February 2024’. The page has since been taken down but the image was pretty obviously real.

Recently, an Elden Ring collectible from premium figurine designer PureArts was announced to be launching in February 2024. The fact that there’s no details on the collectible itself suggests it could be tied to an unannounced character or item from the upcoming DLC.

February is also a significant month in general for Elden Ring, considering the original game was released on February 25, 2022. The DLC was announced just over a year later on February 28, 2023, so could the studio mark the game’s second anniversary with its release?

While it’s best to take all these hints with a pinch of salt, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest next month could be worth getting excited about.

Although even if you accept that it is coming next month, the question is when and how will it be announced? There was a chance it could’ve been at the Xbox Developer_Direct but that obviously didn’t happen, so maybe a PlayStation State of Play instead, if there’s one next month – as is rumoured?

Even if that does happen that would mean the DLC would be getting a shadow drop, or something close to it, which is almost unheard of for DLC and it’s difficult to guess why From and Bandai Namco would go that route.

Although, being confused, and not sure of what’s going on, is definitely on brand for Elden Ring, so maybe it’s just that.
