The X Factor legend Sean Smith has revealed the heartbreaking news that he and his new wife Lyuda recently lost a pregnancy.
Sean made it all the way to the live final of the singing competition in 2007 as a member of pop duo Same Difference with his sister Sarah Wilson (née Smith).
The miscarriage revelation came after Sean had announced the birth of his sister Sarah’s third child, who became the newest member of the Smith-Wilson clan earlier this week.
On Instagram, Sean wished his sister Sarah’s new son, Billy, a life of ‘health, wealth, and happiness’, revealing that the baby was born on Wednesday night.
In response, however, one fan – going by the name Paul – asked Sean whether he’d seen him at a nearby hospital earlier that week. Sean then shared the upsetting news.
‘Yes. Unfortunately my wife and I lost our baby. I was there to test that [the problem] is not something genetic,’ he penned before adding that babies, and especially Billy, were ‘miracles’.
Sean was given messages of support by those who saw the news, with him thanking each of them for their words during a tough time for his family.
Sean married Lyuda Lakovenko in December 2023.
In the original post, Sean beamed proudly as he held his new Billy nephew in his arms, saying: ‘Welcome to the world Billy Oscar Wilson. My 3rd nephew.’
Sarah gave birth to Billy almost 17 years on from the days when the group stole the nation’s hearts to breeze through the Simon Cowell show.
The pair originally disbanded in 2014 after being dropped from their label but reformed briefly in 2020 to release a new single, before embarking on separate solo careers in the years since.
The caption continued: ‘Born 17.01.24 at 11.08pm, weighing 7lb 6oz. Wishing him a life full of health, wealth, and happiness.’
Elsewhere in the comments, Sean was given heaps of congratulations, while some envied that he gets to experience ‘baby cuddles’ over the next few months.

‘Omg Sean, so adorable congratulations buddy,’ one user commented. ‘New nephew, new single, they say things come in threes what is the third but of good news?’
Sarah’s social media activity has been limited in recent years, with her last post on X coming almost a year ago and with no public Instagram account currently available.
For this reason, fans sent their best wishes to Sarah via Sean, who said: ‘Sarah will see your message but I will pass it on regardless,’ keeping up engagement with people who have followed the group for nearly two decades.

Despite being called ‘potentially two of the most annoying people I’ve ever met’ by Simon Cowell during their audition, the group impressed the judges with their tight harmonies and got through boot camp and judges houses.
They were asked to ‘lose the crazy faces, the screaming, the shouting’, with Simon calling them ‘insane’ but ‘so funny’, adding that he ‘pitied their parents’.
In live shows, they sang hits from the likes of Steps, the cast of High School Musical, S Club 7, The Jacksons, and Diana Ross, getting to the last three.
They were eventually beaten by that year’s winner Leon Jackson and runner-up Rhydian Roberts but went down in X Factor history after their run to the final.
Despite being promoted as a novelty act, the sibling singers were never in the bottom two of the public’s vote and performed all over the world after the show was over.
