The inevitable mod for Palworld has already arrived, as monsters and characters from Pokémon take over the survival game.

While developer Pocketpair wrestles with allegations of plagiarism, a Palworld fan has made a mod guaranteed to have Nintendo’s lawyers banging at the door.

The open world survival game, often referred to as ‘Pokémon with guns’, has sold over five million copies within three days. On Monday, it was confirmed to have hit a peak concurrent player count of 1.582million on Steam, the platform’s third highest ever, behind only Counter-Strike 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds.

With so many comparisons to Pokémon, it was only a matter of time before a mod surfaced, replacing all the monsters in Palworld. Four days after launch, YouTuber ToastedShoes shared a clip of the inevitable n Twitter, where Pikachu is seen mining for materials while trainer Ash Ketchum hunts down monsters with an axe.

As Palworld is far more violent than Pokémon, the mod makes for some chaotic scenes, including Misty wielding a shotgun and various cutesy Pokémon being shot with a crossbow.

The full video showcasing the mod is set to land on ToastedShoes YouTube channel on Tuesday, if it manages to survive Nintendo’s lawyers, that is.

Palworld’s director and Pocketpair CEO, Takuro Mizobe, addressed the Pokémon comparisons prior to launch, claiming they had ‘absolutely no intention of infringing upon the intellectual property of other companies’.

The comparisons, which have gone viral on social media, has since caused those behind the project to receive death threats and other abuse.
