Ryan Gosling to perform I’m Just Ken at the Oscars after Barbie song gets nominated-Emily Bashforth-Entertainment – Metro

Ryan Gosling’s I’m Just Ken ballad from the Barbie movie has been nominated at the 2024 Oscars – and that can only mean one thing.

Yep, he’ll probably have to perform it at the ceremony.

We feel he might be questioning whether he Kenned too hard this time.

I’m Just Ken is nominated in the best original song category, and it isn’t the only Barbie tune to receive a nod.

Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For? has also been nominated, along with It Never Went Away from American Symphony, The Fire Inside from Flamin’ Hot, and Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People) – Killers of the Flower Moon.

As per tradition, the songs that are nominated for this award are typically performed during the ceremony and before this award is presented, so we might be seeing Ryan don his fur coat one last time…

Barbie – starring Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, Ncuti Gatwa, Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey, and Nicola Coughlan to name just a few – took the Box Office by storm last summer.

Continuing its success, the flick has received a string of Oscar noms.

His I’m Just Ken moment isn’t even Ryan’s only nomination this year, as he’s also been recognised in the best supporting actor category.

He’ll go up against fellow nominees Sterling K Brown for American Fiction, Robert De Niro for Killers Of The Flower Moon, Robert Downey Jr for Oppenheimer, and Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things.

Meanwhile, America received a best supporting actress nomination.

She faces tough competition from Danielle Brooks for The Colour Purple, Jodie Foster for Nyad, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers, as well as Emily Blunt for Oppenheimer.

Barbie itself has had arguably the highest honour bestowed upon it, with a best picture nomination.

American Fiction, Anatomy Of A Fall, The Holdovers, Killers Of The Flower Moon, Maestro, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things, and The Zone Of Interest have also received nominations, so it’ll be a tense night waiting to see who takes home the trophy.

However, as ever, there was disappointment.

Film fans were left both flabbergasted and outraged as Barbie director Greta Gerwig was snubbed, while Margot Robbie also failed to gain a nod for best actress.

Barbie girls were especially stunned given how, thanks to Barbie, Greta became the first female director to break the $1billion barrier.

Reacting to the snub, social media users noted the irony of it all.

Joe Foster wrote on X: ‘No nomination for Margot Robbie or Greta Gerwig for the #Oscars but Ryan Gosling gets one. Literally the whole point of the Barbie film.’

Leigh Lewallen wrote: ‘Greta Gerwig made a film that was critically acclaimed, culturally impactful, hilarious, unique, visually exceptional, perfectly cast and acted, left people laughing, crying and thinking AND made a billion dollars at the box office. But no Best Director nom?!’

User scddevereaux wrote: ‘So Ryan Gosling’s nominated for playing ken but Margot Robbie isn’t nominated for playing barbie… in barbie’
