The TV stars have continued living together since, however, while their young kids remain supposedly unaware of their split.
Now, though, things are getting serious.
It’s believed Christine has ‘had enough’, with Paddy expecting proceedings to become ‘expensive’.
A friend of Christine’s told MailOnline: ‘The gloves are off, she was good to Paddy, she stayed at home and brought up his children while he was out earning money.

‘It’s going to be an expensive divorce for Paddy.
‘Christine has had enough.’
It comes after Christine reportedly hired a hotshot lawyer to fight her corner.
Catherine Bedford is also known as the ‘pitbull’, and previously helped make-up artist Lisa Armstrong, who allegedly got £31million in her divorce from presenter Ant McPartlin.
She’s also currently representing actress Sophie Turner in her very public divorce from singer Joe Jonas.
A source told The Sun that Christine was keen to ‘work with a woman’ and she saw Catherine as ‘one of the best in the business’.
She’s hoping Catherine will help the former Real Housewives of Cheshire star remain in the £4million six-bedroom mansion she shares with the comedian.
The source added that she has spent years putting ‘hours of love, care and attention’ into her home.

‘It would be heartbreaking to have to leave the property after all this time and uproot her life.
‘It’s already difficult enough to navigate a divorce without the stress of selling the property.’
As for Paddy, he’s already made digs that his split is going to cost him.
Appearing on the This Morning sofa just last month, the former Top Gear presenter was asked why he was returning to stand-up comedy and going back on tour.
‘Errr… well, the money’s run out now, it’s taken about eight years to spend it all and I’m like, “Oh, I’ve got to build it back up”,’ he told host Emma Willis.
Following their separation, Christine has said on several occasions that she isn’t looking for a new romance.

Christine has said in the past that she was ‘petrified’ of dating again, given that her relationship with Paddy was all she had known for a long time.
Speaking on Vicky Pattison’s podcast The Secret To… in December, Christine added that she and Paddy ‘talk an awful lot’, so she’s in the loop with his love life.
She shared: ‘We’re very open. He has said to me when he’s been going on a date.
‘We still live in the same house. But I think both of us right now, we’re very much in the same place, where we’re just, like, just don’t really know what to do or where to go.’
The mum-of-three continued: ‘We’ve been in this [relationship] for 16 years. I’ve been with him since I was 19, so my dating history before him was an absolute mess, then I’ve had this lovely long marriage.’
‘I kind of don’t really know where to go, where to start, and he’s the same, he’s very much the same,’ she confessed about moving on with someone new.
‘He’s tried it and he’s gone, “I’m not quite ready”.’

Although, Paddy sparked rumours he actually was ready for a new relationship over Christmas, with a cryptic Instagram post.
Taking to his Insta Story, the TV star posted a photo of ‘his and hers’ mugs, without tagging a mystery woman or saying anything more about who it belonged to.
Christine – who found herself at the centre of speculation she was dating Chelcee Grimes not long ago – has admitted that dating again might be ‘easier’ for them both once she and Paddy no longer live together.
Reps for Christine and Paddy McGuinness have been contacted for comment.
