Winning an Oscar is an incredible moment of recognition for any actor but what do you do with it after that? Well, Daniel Kaluuya left his in someone’s bed.

The 34-year-old actor won the Academy Award for best supporting role as Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah, three years after he was nominated for best actor in the acclaimed horror Get Out.

While appearing on The Graham Norton Show, host Graham asked him how it felt to be an Oscar winner as he was joined on the couch by Bryan Cranston, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Kevin Bridges.

‘It’s nuts innit,’ Daniel said as he was praised by the Irish comedy legend, having skyrocketed in Hollywood thanks to his performances in Black Mirror, multiple Marvel films, and Jordan Peele’s Nope.

Graham, 60, joked: ‘I feel like you’re just living your life and walking around London but you have an Oscar.’

This is where Daniel confessed he had actually almost lost his award hours later while enjoying a big night out, leaving it on a bed.

Daniel, who was promoting his directorial debut The Kitchen, began: ‘Well when we went to a party after and I was just walking around with the Oscar and everyone’s just like woah.

‘Everyone would just gravitate towards you and everyone’s taking selfies, I was just passing it around.’

‘You didn’t lose it though?’ asked Graham expecting reassurance from the star but instead Daniel replied: ‘I almost did.’

Bryce looked at him with her jaw on the floor as he explained: ‘I left it on the bed but we were having a good time.’

‘Do we want this story?’ teased the host, feigning horror as he scrunched up his face and added: ‘What were you doing with that Oscar?’

The fellow guests were horrified as he explained he totally forgot about it (Picture: PA)

Thankfully, one helpful friend gave it back to him (Picture: AP Photo/Chris Pizzello, Pool)

Bryan egged Daniel on to ‘Tell us that story’ instead while the live audience and fellow celebs roared with laughter.

The Skins legend shared: ‘It was a party, we were having a good time. It was the pandemic so we hadn’t been out so I hadn’t seen people so I was just happy I was out.’

Mimicking his friend, Daniel then leaned over and whispered urgently in Bryan’s ear: ‘You left the Oscar on the bed’.

Thanks to that friend – and only that friend – the newly crowned Oscar winner was given back his prized possession having totally forgotten it amid all the partying.

The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One at 10.40pm and is available on iPlayer.
