Primark worker lifts the lid on why you’re really given those receipts & how staff have to keep an eye on the thong pile

IT’S the discount retailer we all love – but according to one Primark employee, there are a few things shoppers may not be aware of.

Kate Wilkinson, from Derby, took to TikTok to spill the beans about her experience with the job – and turns out, there’s a reason the security have to keep an eye on the knickers pile.

According to the employee, from Derby, the workers regularly have to deal with four types of customers – and some of them visit the store to, hopefully, get a bargain for free.

Lifting the lid on the shoppers she’s encountered so far, Katie said that some people will demand a refund no matter what – even if they don’t have a receipt to prove the purchase.

In such instances, she claimed in the video, the customer will order Katie, or anyone by the till, to get the manager involved – which is why it’s always essential to carry those receipts, no matter how long they are.

Meanwhile, as Katie and her colleagues are dealing with angry customers by the tills, security are kept busy making sure there’s no crime taking place by the lingerie aisle.

This, Katie explained, is because younger customers, typically around school age, will ”steal the £1 eyelashes and thongs”.

On her shifts, the 22-year-old also claimed to be approached by a group of lads, keen to do some shopping.

”Ayo, babe, where’s the big man boxers? Cheers, darling,” they’d thank Katie for her help.

Spilling the beans on her platform, Katie noted that sometimes customers may look at her and assume that she doesn’t want to be there.

But despite how unenthusiastic she may appear, the Primark employee said she ”loved” her job.

It’s not just Katie who’s been very open about her experience with the retailer – one former staff member, Caitlin Sinnett, recently shared her top shopping tips, as well as how to get an item for ever cheaper.

”If you want to buy an item but find that it’s damaged, then you can take it to the till and say it to the person that’s serving you, and they will get their supervisor or manager over who will take money off it.

”You get it at a discounted price.”

The same also goes if you discover the faulty defect upon arriving home and inspecting the goods properly, such as a hole in the dress.

”If you do want to keep that item, you can take it back and you can like get your money back from Primark and you can buy it back at a reduced price from them, like say, it was a button missing.”

Do staff get any discounts? And are there any perks?

According to Caitlin, those working in Primark receive a special gift four times a year – a chance to nab things with a discount.

”This is normally at spring, summer, autumn and winter – normally before Christmas, which is usually quite good.

”But you can’t get it on sale items.

”That doesn’t mean it won’t go through the till – that just means that the employee who is serving you needs to see if it’s on sale or not.”

Caitlin worked at the shop for over two years and insisted she loved everything about the experience.
