Susanna Reid has revealed she tried to see how she’d fare with a 36-hour fast – but her attempt didn’t last very long.
It was recently revealed that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak fasts for a day and a half at the beginning of each week, in an ‘incredibly disciplined’ regime.
On Monday’s Good Morning Britain, Susanna and Richard Madeley reacted to this revelation, speculating over whether they’d be capable of following suit.
After Richard, 67, vowed that he was going to give it a go, Susanna, 53, admitted that she already had… and it didn’t go according to plan.
‘I had I would say a big day on Saturday of eating junk, and then I read this story, and I thought, “Well if the Prime Minister can do 36 hours, I should be able to do something similar,”‘ she said.
Susanna’s aim was to begin her fast on the Saturday at around half past nine when she’d finished her dinner, and to keep it up until Monday morning.

But alas, it came to an end far earlier than she had been planning.
‘At half past 11 on Sunday morning, 14 hours in, I was the definition of hangry!’ she admitted.
‘And my blood sugar, I could feel myself kind of wobbling. There was no way I could do more than 14 hours without eating.’
A source close to the Prime Minister told The Sunday Times that he ‘doesn’t eat anything at all on a Monday’ as part of his regular fasting practice.

‘It’s remarkable really given that he is often on visits or doing PMQ prep on a Monday,’ they told the publication.
‘It’s a real testament to the discipline, focus and determination that he shows in all aspects of his life and work.’
The politician’s fasting is part of his observance of his Hindu faith.
Earlier this month, GMB was thrown into chaos when Ed Balls accidentally kicked Susanna in the head, when they were taking part in a segment about etiquette on airplanes.
Susanna revealed that she was later inundated with messages from viewers claiming that she was being over-dramatic in her reaction.
‘I should point out, it was the hard heel of his shoe, swung with the full heft of his leg. I would describe that as a clonk,’ she said in response.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
