Friends fan have clashed over their opinions on whether some of the couples were ‘inappropriate’ or not.
Two decades after it wrapped up, it’s still a hit with new and old fans, however some have recently been debating some of the romantic storylines that played out on the series.
On a recent Reddit threat, user pinklavalamp reflected on Bruce Willis’ cameo on the show.
Over three episodes in 2000’s season 6, the actor played Paul Stevens, whose daughter Elizabeth (Alexandra Holden) was a student and then girlfriend of Ross.
Although Paul made his disapproval of the relationship clear, he eventually backed down, however Friends fans have now pointed out how the 12-year age gap between Ross and his student was a ‘creepy’ storyline.
Many called Ross Gellar’s (David Schwimmer’s) relationship with Elizabeth (Alexandra Holden) ‘creepy’ (Picture: NBCUniversal via Getty Images)
‘Loved having Bruce Willis on the show, but the Elizabeth story arc for Ross was weird, and creepy. And inappropriate. He should’ve been fired for this,’ the user said.
‘I also found it extremely creepy when Ross took off to Spring Break (woohoo!) That was just weird lol,’ one of the respondents commented.
Another added: ‘Weird, creepy, and inappropriate = Ross.’

However, someone else pointed out the show had ‘a few questionable age gaps and relationships’.
Many referenced the fact Paul also went on to date Rachel, who at 29 was more than a decade younger than him.
However, that romance was defended by some, who said Ross dating a student made for uncomfortable viewing due to the fact he held a position of power.
Discussing the topic further, some also said the relationship between Monica and Richard (Tom Selleck) was questionable.

A friend of Monica’s dad, Richard was 21 years older than her, with the pair hooking up in the second season before later breaking up due to him not wanting to have kids.
‘People overlooking Richard really irk me. The guy has a daughter Monica’s age and has seen Monica grow up. He’s basically an uncle. Age difference aside that’s super icky,’ someone shared.
As many Friends fans know, none of the above relationships lasted, with Ross and Rachel ending up together, while Monica and Chandler got married.

But eagle-eyed viewers recently pointed out a scene from season 3 they believe made it clear the two couples would end up together.
In The One with the Football, while waiting for Thanksgiving dinner, the gang played a game of touch football.
Grabs started doing the rounds online showing people pointing out Rachel and Ross were both wearing Nike – Rachel had a hat on and Ross a jumper while Chandler and Monica, on the other hand, were both wearing Giants merch – he was wearing a blue Giants cap and she wore a branded jumper.
Fans of the show then referenced Phoebe calling soulmates ‘lobsters’ because they fall in love and mate for life when commenting on the apparent foreshadowing.
Friends is streaming on Netflix.
