Sir David Jason fans are set to be disappointed after the BBC rescheduled an episode of his new show.

The Only Fools and Horses legend, 83, has been exploring his lifelong passion for creating and fixing things with The Repair Shop star Jay Blades, 53 in a craft series.

David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed sees the pair park up their toolshed at the UK’s air shows, steam rallies, county fairs, and vintage festivals, to meet some of the nation’s most talented crafters, makers, and tinkerers.

The programme debuted on BBC Two on Monday January 22 and has been airing on weekday nights ever since at 6.30pm.

However, the episode planned for next Wednesday (February 7) has been pulled from air in a major shake-up.

Instead, coverage of the football will be broadcast in its slot, with Match of the Day Live: Africa Cup of Nations scheduled from 4.30pm to 7pm.

But fans of David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed fear not, the show will resume as normal from Thursday and will also air on Saturday February 10 at 5.50pm, to account for the ‘missing’ episode.

Speaking previously about his involvement in the programme, the Del Boy actor revealed he had developed a ‘great’ friendship with Jay and enjoyed taking on a radically different role to his acting gigs.

He said: ‘It’s great to be back on the nation’s TV screens doing something totally different.

‘I’ve played a lot of roles in my time but, to be myself, show off my creative passion and help the wonderful people we meet along the way resolve their mechanical masterpiece issues is very rewarding.

‘I’ve really enjoyed being on the road with Jay where we have built up a great friendship and had a lot of fun which I hope the viewers will enjoy watching when it airs.’

Meanwhile, Jay said that working with ‘fellow craft enthusiast’ Sir David was a ‘dream come true.’

The series comes after Sir David paid a visit to The Repair Shop in 2022, with Jay sharing on social media: ‘Hi Guys Look who came down to visit us at @TheRepairShop today? A Real Diamond Geezer I’m a very Happy Bunny.’

The duo’s friendship was also seen on a Strictly Come Dancing special when Sir David heaped praise on Jay who was performing the Only Fools and Horses soundtrack.

‘Hello Jay, it’s your old mate Del Boy here,’ he began. ‘I understand you’re doing a bit of prancing about up there at the BBC. Well, good luck with that my son.

‘Oh, by the way, I understand that you’re doing it to my theme song right? That means there will be a royalty. Put it in an envelope at the BBC reception centre and I’ll pick it up later.’

He continued: ‘In the meantime, I want to wish you all the best and all the people that are watching the show and all the people who help make the show, I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a jolly good new year.’

Jay was visibly moved by the heartwarming words and admitted: ‘That’s just too much. That’s a Christmas present, that’s special.’

David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed continues tonight on BBC Two and iPlayer at 6.30pm.
