Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant John Whaite has revealed he is happily married after tying the knot with partner Paul Atkins.

The 34-year-old baker, who danced with Johannes Radebe in 2021, dropped stunning black and white snaps of his understated wedding to Paul in New York City.

‘Our big day in the Big Apple. Mr & Mr,’ the newlyweds wrote in a surprise post announcing the marriage.

John, who rose to fame on The Great British Bake Off, has been with Paul for 16 years, adding on his story they had ‘decided to take advantage of the spouse ISA allowance.’

In the post, the couple can be seen smiling and gazing lovingly at each other as they kiss and walk down the street.

Keeping things casual, John rocked a kilt and leather jacket while Paul beat the winter cold with a beanie hat and jeans.

Sharing their intimate pictures of the big day, the Steph’s Packed Lunch star added a quote from Justice Anthony Kennedy on marriage equality in 2015.

He wrote: ‘No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.

‘As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage.

‘Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions.

‘They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.’

Congratulations flooded in for the couple, with Drag Race winner Danny Beard writing: ‘Congrats gorge ❤️.’

‘Amazing! Congratulations ❤️❤️❤️❤️,’ added Steph McGovern as Michelle Visage cheered: ‘CONGRATS TO YOU BOTH ❤️.’
