The Apprentice viewers have taken aim at this year’s candidates after they suffered a series of spectacular fails during the very first challenge.

The 18th season of the long-running reality series returned to screens on Thursday night, with 18 hopefuls attempting to prove to Lord Alan Sugar he should invest £250,000 in their business.

However, after the first challenge, they’re going to have their work cut out for them after both the boys and girls teams faced massive fails.

Their task saw them sent to the Scottish Highlands, with each team split up to either lead corporate clients on a work trip on adventurous activities or cook lunches for when they returned.

But both groups who put their hand up to work in the kitchen suffered shocking disasters, with Noor Bouziane not realising she’d coated the fishcakes in the crumble meant for their desserts, instead of breadcrumbs.

Meanwhile on the boys’ side, Oliver Medforth was put in charge of making brownies, despite the fact he had zero baking experience.

Inevitably things went very wrong, with Oliver not knowing the difference between a teaspoon and tablespoon, and then forgetting to put flours in the brownie mix before cooking them.

Unsurprisingly, those watching on at home had quite a lot to say as things played out.

‘Catching up with The Apprentice. Haven’t laughed so hard in ages. Christ, they’re abysmal,’ user bigwows shared on X.

‘Hats off to the producers of @bbcapprentice … for managing to find such incompetent candidates,’ Scott Elliott shared.

‘They’re all crumbling. I’m embarrassed for them. They’re all quite thick. Probably clever but not an ounce of common sense between them,’ Pauline added.

Keith Robinson was slightly less forgiving, writing: ‘I look at these contestants and fear for humans existence.’

Meanwhile Jessica called the series ‘comedy gold’ after watching the total shambles play out.

Speaking to after being booted, Oliver shared how he’d managed to turn his flourless mishap into an actual business.

Claiming the brownies that came out were ‘actually really, really tasty’, he was inspired to come up with a new brand called Ollternative.

‘So it’s no flour, all flavour of the brownies,’ he said.

‘So where I made a mess up, I tried to utilise it and I’ve learnt from that mistake, and they taste really, really good.’

Given Oliver’s family runs a distillery, they have also launched a salted caramel chocolate brownie vodka, and says that he now has ‘brownies coming out of his ears’, with flavours including Nutella, chocolate orange and salted caramel.

The Apprentice continues next Thursday at 9pm on BBC One and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
