Awkwafina is a big fan of British pigeons, you’ll be pleased to hear.

The US actress – whose real name is Nora Lum – reckons pigeons on British turf are actually, erm, ‘more polite’ than American ones…

Golden Globe winner Awkwafina made the admission during press interviews for the new animated movie Migration in which she voices Chump, the leader of a New York City pigeon clan.

Speaking about preparation for the role (yes), the Hollywood star, 35, who is 5’1″, star said she relates to Chump due to also having ‘a big, big personality’ but being ‘very small’.

‘And she’s a real New Yorker. So, I feel like that’s definitely something I identify with,’ she told Sky News.

Awkwafina added to the outlet: ‘My drama study on pigeons is just growing up in New York and constantly just almost having one just fly into my mouth.’

On her encounters with her British pigeon counterparts, Awkwafina had some observations.

‘I’ve had some interactions. I feel like they’re more polite. They still walk fast, but not that fast, you know what I mean?’

Yes, Awkwafina, we know exactly what you mean.

And it’s not just us agreeing, as her Migration co-star Keegan Michael-Key (who voices Jamaican parrot Delroy) quipped: ‘They get out of the way quicker.’

Released this month, an official synopsis for Migration reads: ‘A family of ducks decides to leave the safety of a New England pond for an adventurous trip to Jamaica.

‘However, their well-laid plans quickly go awry when they get lost and wind up in New York City.

‘The experience soon inspires them to expand their horizons, open themselves up to new friends, and accomplish more than they ever thought possible.’

With a starry cast, the animation also features voices from David Mitchell, Elizabeth Banks, Caspar Jennings, and the one and only Danny DeVito.

While the press run has clearly started taking its toll, what with Awkwafina’s pigeon ramblings, she isn’t the only American star to make a quirky comment about us Brits lately.

Enter, Sarah Jessica Parker and her obsession with the London Underground.

The Sex and the City star, 58, recently said she wants to be ‘completely conversant’ with the Tube.

Who’s going to tell her?

‘I want to know Jubilee, Piccadilly, Northern,’ the star said speaking at the opening night of her play Plaza Suite, running at the Savoy Theatre.

‘I want to know Edgware,’ – okay then – ‘I want to know all of it, Barnet, High Hill (sic), whatever’ she added, chatting to What’s On Stage.

‘I want all of it and I even found a map store that takes me back to the early maps of the Forties. So your system here is so exquisite, you have great public transport.’
