Channel 4 is facing the ire of TV viewers following the news that a popular prison drama has seemingly been ‘axed’.

Starring Derry Girls actress Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, W1A’s Nina Sosanya and Silent Witness actor Stephen Wight, Screw premiered in January 2022.

The series followed a group of staff and prisoners at a male jail, taking inspiration from the show’s creator Rob Williams’ own experiences of working in prisons.

It’s now been claimed by one of the actors in the cast that Screw will not be continuing after the second series aired last year.

Sharing a promotional poster on Instagram, Ben Tavassoli – who played the character Louis Costa – wrote in his caption: ‘Unfortunate news that this is where our journey ends for Screw.

‘Want to thank you guys so much for tuning in. All your kind words went a long way.

‘Love everyone who was part of the show, very lucky to have made dear friends for life.’

Fans left comments underneath Ben’s post to express their upset over the news.

‘Ahhh no , really thought there would have been another season, pity, but was brilliant 👏,’ wrote Dave.

‘That’s sad. I loved the show,’ said Steve, while Claire added: ‘Loved this show! Gutted!’

One viewer called Donna sounded particularly shocked, commenting: ‘What! Nooooo! Loved the show.’

While Shane appeared confused by the update, stating: ‘I thought there were plans for a new series? 🤔.’

Channel 4 and other members of the cast are yet to comment on social media on the apparent axe of the drama.

Screw followed 21-year-old Rose (Jamie-Lee), as she began work as a new trainee at Long Marsh Prison, under the authority of prison officer Leigh (Nina).

The other officers on the staff included the optimistic Ali (Faraz Ayub), the arrogant Gary (Stephen), the plain-speaking Jackie (Laura Checkley) and the lazy Don (Ron Donachie).

Metro.co.uk has contacted Channel 4 for comment.

Screw is available to stream on demand on Channel 4.
