Silent Witness has returned with David Caves back in his role as Jack Hodgson.

For over a decade, he’s been a fan-favourite on the long-running crime drama which began in 1996 as the forensic scientist and amateur cage fighter, who helps investigate and catch the baddies.

As well as Jack’s impressive work ethic and ability to crack even the toughest of cases, audiences are also compelled by his romance with Dr Nikki Alexander, who is played by Emilia Fox.

The series, which BBC defended over a ‘racist slur’ last week, keeps David, 44, busy but let’s take a look at his life outside of working hours.

Who is David Caves’ wife?

David is married to Verity Cunningham, who works in finance – but he keeps their relationship pretty private. Although, they have been pictured out on the town together a handful of times.

Does David Caves have children and who are they?

Sticking to the privacy theme, David hasn’t publicly shared his children but we know that he has two due to an appearance on The One Show.

During an interview in January last year, he told Alex Jones that his second child was arriving in just a couple of weeks.

Although he’s best known for Silent Witness, the Northern Irish actor has starred in other TV shows and films since graduating London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in 2005.

His initial focus was theatre, and he took on the complex role of Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew for the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company in 2011, where he was linked to his co-star Lisa Dillon.

His first feature film was Ironclad: Battle for Blood in 2014 – an action movie directed by Jonathan English.

In 2016, he played secret service agent Clint Hill in the Oscar-nominated biopic Jackie alongside Natalie Portman who played the titular character. The film follows Jacqueline Kennedy in the days after the assassination of her husband President John F. Kennedy.

David also starred in 15 Days alongside Catherine Tydsley – a Channel 5 show that aired on four consecutive days in 2019. In the murder mystery series, a young man is killed in the first episode. Audiences are then taken back fifteen days and it is slowly revealed who killed him, and their motive.

Both of David’s parents were teachers in Belfast, and he initially considered the profession he changed his mind. The actor, who enjoyed rugby and studied modern languages including French and German, found his calling in acting which shocked his family.

‘My parents were very surprised when I told them I wanted to be an actor,’ he previously told Belfast Live.

Silent Witness airs on Mondays at 9pm on BBC One.
