Wrestler dies in accident aged just 21-Alistair McGeorge-Entertainment – Metro

Wrestler Asahi has died aged 21.

The Japanese star, who worked for the Actwres girl’Z (AWG) promotion, was in an ‘unexpected accident’ on February 1 and the company has confirmed her tragic death.

In a statement, the promotion confirmed they have cancelled their next show on February 9 as everyone involved is mourning.

They also expressed their ‘gratitude to everyone who has support Asahi’.
Her last match was at AWG’s January 31 event as she teamed up with Yufa to beat Ayano Irie and Kira An.

Asahi made her in-ring debut aged 14 for the Ice Ribbon promotion as she wrestler former All Japan Women’s Champion Manami Toyoto at Korakuen Hall.

She went onto wrestle for the likes of, Ganbare Pro, DREAM and others across Japan, before taking a break in 2020 to focus on her schoolwork.

She would return to the ring the next year, and in 2023 she decided to end her contract with Ice Ribbon and joined Actwres girl’Z, having chosen to make what was initially a temporary move permanent.

Wrestling fans have been left heartbroken by the news of her death, hailing her as ‘a beam of sunshine’.

‘Damn that’s such terrible news. Rest in peace,’ wrote @DeportesConCris, while @whirlingcandy added: ‘A beam of sunshine and happiness always. asahi forever.’

X user @ShinyCalKicks said: ‘RIP Asahi, 21 is no age in the slightest. A very sad day for wrestling. Thoughts go out to all her family, friends and fans ❤️’

While fan @pinklightsticc also wrote: ‘Heading to bed with the heaviest of heart. Tell the people you care about that you love them. RIP Asahi’

Even fans not already familiar with her work have paid their respects following another devastating loss for the wrestling world.

@Omegasblade tweeted: ‘RIP — never got to watch her wrestle but any loss of life so young is heartbreaking. My thoughts to her family, friends and fans.’
