WWE fans were terrified for Bron Breakker after the rising star came close to suffering a nasty injury over the weekend.

During Sunday night’s NXT Vengeance Day event, the 26-year-old wrestler – whose dad and uncle are WWE Hall of Famer’s Rick and Scott Steiner – got caught in a painful predicament during the opening match.

Bron and his unlikely tag partner Baron Corbin were in action as fan favourites Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes in the final of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament.

Midway through the match, the rising star was delighting fans with an explosive performance when his speed and bravado almost got the better of him.

As he charged against the ropes, the former NXT Champion appeared to forget to put his arm over the top rope – a technique used to keep wrestlers anchored and safe during such moments – and ended up ducking under it by accident.

Instead of bouncing and running back towards the middle of the ring, Bron’s head got caught on the top rope and he had to quickly slip away to stop himself getting tangled.

Thankfully, he appeared to avoid any serious injury, although fans immediately pointed out he could have been badly hurt with a concussion or broken neck.

‘Bron literally almost broke his freakin’ neck on that top rope😳😳,’ wrote X user @WresCentral, as @NateLilly22 added: ‘Goddamn Bron almost decapitated himself #VengeanceDay’

‘Bron Breakker so damn fast he almost decapitated himself with the ropes damn #VengeanceDay,’ said @alhadialba, while viewer @_ImBread tweeted: ‘Brother Bron Breakker almost got his neck ripped clean off😭’

He seemed to escape with a cut rather than anything more serious, but viewers at home noticed how ‘worried’ everyone was for him.

Fan @EmilioAmigo92 added: ‘Omg! Bron Breakker almost decapitated himself 😭 that was scary. The crowd got worried so that the energy changed after that 😩 #VengeanceDay’

The match – and victory – came after a great showing for Bron in last month’s Royal Rumble, and on-screen he’s now pondering his next move with Raw and SmackDown’s respective general managers Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis chasing his signature.

Elsewhere at Vengeance Day, Dijak beat Joe Gacy in a violent No Disqualification Match, The D’Angelo Family overcame OTM, and Lyra Valkyria retained her NXT Women’s Title against Roxanne Perez and Lola Vice.

Oba Femi held onto the NXT North American Title at the expense of Dragon Lee, and Ilja Dragunov is still NXT Champion after beating Trick Williams.

The show ended in dramatic fashion, after the latter was brutally attacked by his friend Carmelo Hayes just a couple of hours after their loss in the Dusty Cup.

NXT Vengeance Day is available to watch on demand via the WWE Network.
