Channel 4 star Fred Sirieix has revealed his attempts to dive left him in serious pain and covered in bruises.

The maitre d’hotel, who hosts the dating series First Dates, might have put his body on the line last year when signing up to I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, but his latest attempt to get out of his comfort zone didn’t end too well.

The 52-year-old TV star recently tried diving with his Olympic diver daughter Andrea, 17, but emerged from the pool covered in bruises.

‘I tried diving for five days with my daughter Andrea – who’s an Olympic with Team GB,’ he said.

‘I was left black and blue, I got bruised everywhere, it was so painful.

‘I was scared every time I was on the board,’ he told Metro.

He continued: ‘My daughter was on the ground and she said, “Daddy, you’ve got to relax, we can see your heart beating in your chest”. I can’t believe she saw that.’

Despite his diving failure, Fred left I’m A Celebrity viewers gobsmacked last year with his impressively toned body.

Speaking of his routine, he said: ‘I exercise six times a week and I do 20 minutes of basic bodyweight exercises or 301 push-ups, 100 squats and 100 reverse squats, which takes me 20 minutes.

‘Then I was on the bike for 20 minutes and I did 15 minutes of various exercises with free weights.

‘It’s basically about getting your heart rate up for 20 minutes a day. The older you get, the more you realise it’s about mobility.’

For those who remember Fred’s infamous bust-ups with co-star Josie Gibson, he’s now admitted the biggest struggle while in camp related to his love of food.

‘In the morning, you’re given the rice and bean portions, and you have to decide what you cook and when you’re cooking,’ he recalled.

‘So, we’d usually have rice in the morning, beans for lunch and then keep something back for the evening.

‘By the afternoon, your energy levels go down, but you need to save energy to get water and wood. That’s when you get hungry.’

Following his 17 days in the jungle, Fred said the low-calorie diet had ‘taken its toll’.

‘We were all getting smaller by the day,’ he posted on social media.

‘I lost quite a bit of weight but not as much as I would have done if I did not exercise. Keeping active and staying strong never made more sense!’

During his time on the show, Fred said he lost about 3 kilos.

First Dates airs on Tuesdays at 10pm on Channel 4.
