Richard revealed he calls on Kate for advice on how to ‘navigate’ caring for his mum Dot, 81, who he looks after in the mornings before GMB airs and after the ITV show ends.
Detailing his conversations with Kate, Richard said: ‘I remember saying to Kate, you know, you sort of feel guilty when you are there, are you doing enough? And then you feel guilty when you’re not there enough. Anyone who’s in that position as a sort of unpaid carer knows it’s a huge responsibility.
‘So what Kate has done in shining a light on that community I think it’s extraordinary.’

Speaking about what advice he seeks from Kate, Richard told The Sun: I’ve been able to talk to her about navigating the caring system because, you know initially when you find yourself at a stage in life, where you have to navigate that, it feels like it’s quite intimidating.’
Richard’s comments come as Kate prepares to return to hosting Good Morning Britain for the first time since Draper’s death on Thursday, having made a short appearance on the show earlier this week.

Kate expressed her gratitude for the ‘love’ she’s received from viewers, while also explaining how her children Billy, 14, and Darcey, 17, have been coping, including how her daughter asked if she could help to carry her father’s coffin.
She also spoke about her decision to return to work, explaining: ‘Everybody has to. Bill’s going to have to go to school, somebody better tell him to hurry up or I’ll be in trouble with the teachers. But we have to pick ourselves up and carry on.’
It’s believed mum-of-two Kate – who has kept a low profile in recent weeks – has also told bosses at Smooth FM she is keen to get back to fronting her popular radio show with them.

A source told The Sun: ‘Kate has had an incredibly rough past couple of months, and it has taken its toll mentally and physically.
‘But she is a workhorse, and journalism, being on live TV, runs through her blood — it’s what she knows and loves.
‘Kate is keen to keep busy and get stuck back into work.’
They added that ‘it’s the perfect time for her to be reunited with her GMB family.’

‘Everyone at GMB has been hugely supportive, and are desperate to support and welcome her back into the family,’ they said.
Former lobbyist Draper died at the age of 56 on January 3 after spending Christmas and New Year in hospital with Kate and their children by his side.
At his funeral on Friday (February 2), Kate was joined by a plethora of co-stars, famous faces, and politicians, including Sir Elton John.
The service took place at Primrose Hill church, which is where Draper and Kate married on 10 September 2005, just a year after they started dating.
