Erm, so Anastacia is a vegetarian… but she rather enthusiastically tucked into Ainsley Harriott’s pork on This Morning.

As you can imagine, people are baffled.

The Left Outside Alone hitmaker, 55, appeared as a guest to be interviewed by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on Wednesday’s show (February 7).

Before her chat, though, she couldn’t resist getting in on the action as Ainsley cooked up a storm in the kitchen.

Rushing over to the set, the American singer-songwriter happily tucked in, but proceeded to shock the hosts by revealing that she actually ‘doesn’t eat meat’.

‘I do not eat meat, people! This is the truth,’ she declared while piling up her plate.

‘I’ve inspired you to go back?’, Ainsley questioned.

The vocalist went on to ask Ainsley what was the best way to eat the dish, whether he’d recommend putting meat, potato, and broccoli on the same fork.

‘Oh yes!’, he encouraged.

Clearly impressed by what she was served, Anastacia shovelled down mouthful after mouthful, saying: ‘This is the perfect breakfast!’

‘Are you really a veggie?’, said a stunned Alison.

‘Yeah! I don’t eat meat,’ the US star laughed.

‘That’s absolutely mortifying, I’m so sorry,’ Dermot chimed in, taking the plate away.

‘I wanted it!’, Anastacia defended.

Reacting to the bizarre moment, viewers took to X.

Vanessa O’Hara wrote: ‘@thismorning Can you check if Anatasia is ok? She’s a veggie who just munching on a pork chop.’

Sue Marie joked: ‘Omg belly laughing at #Anastacia I’m a veggie you know as she’s tucking into a pork chop. Why not she says !!!’

Others asked whether the star is a ‘flexy’ veggie, meaning she will eat meat on odd occasions.

Jason Andrews expressed his shock, writing: ‘Just watched “vegetarian” Anastasia sit and eat pork chops on #ThisMorning WTF !!’

Later on while sitting on the sofa, Anastacia continued to make light of the matter, jokingly pulling pork out of her teeth.

Just as puzzled as the rest of us, Alison quizzed her: ‘Are you a meat eater now?’

In what was surely a major compliment for Ainsley, she replied: ‘Well, if he’s cooking for me I might have to convert.’

While details of the extent of Anastacia’s vegetarianism aren’t exactly known, she has spoken about her diet in the past.

In 2015, the I’m Outta Love singer spoke about having breast cancer.

Anastacia – full name, Anastacia Lyn Newkirk – has had the disease twice and has also suffered from the inflammatory disease Crohn’s since the age of 12.

Speaking about how her health woes changed her outlook on life, she said: ‘My sister showed me that Super Size Me McDonald’s thing [a documentary showing what happened to a man when he ate only McDonald’s food for a month] and now I can’t eat McDonald’s, but other than that I eat as I always did. I try to avoid processed food, but I haven’t overhauled my diet.

‘I eat to live, rather than live to eat – maybe because food fuels Crohn’s disease, I have never associated it with pleasure.

‘Besides, I’m not a model. I don’t need to be a size zero. I’m a singer. If I become two singers on stage, what difference does it make? We’d just have to move a couple of musicians out of the way…’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
