Rob Lowe’s injury caused ‘an issue ’embarrassment’ (Credits: Rob Latour/REX)
Their characters Danny and Debbie had an intimate moment together, and during the scene, Rob, 59, let out a groan that was more passionate than maybe the script required, but not everything was as it seemed.
This is according to the director Edward Zwick who recalled the incident in his new memoir, Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood.
‘Demi was so emotionally available, and the camera loved her. Both actors were open and willing, especially given the nudity the scenes required,’ he wrote (via Daily Mail).
However, it was slightly complicated as Rob and Demi, 61, (who recently revealed what happened to the clay pots from Ghost) once dated, or something of the sort, which she wrote about in her autobiography, Inside Out.
‘In his own memoir, Rob suggests that we had some kind of hot-and-heavy romance. I can vaguely recall one ill-advised late night together, but I’m grateful to him for the complimentary descriptions of our youth,’ she shared.

Edward recalled: ‘To further complicate matters, Demi was the girlfriend of Rob’s oldest friend, Emilio Estevez. Though they all knew such scenes to be more technical than sexual, they were still a little anxious.’
‘It all went surprisingly well, until an especially passionate (and athletic) moment when Rob began to groan quite loudly as they pretended to make love,’ he added.
He then clarified the sound was actually due to the injury, much to the relief of the ’embarrassed’ crew.

‘Everyone looked away, embarrassed, trying to act like it wasn’t happening until we realized that Rob had torn his ACL. Pro that he is, Rob kept acting until I said, “cut”. The show, as they say, had to go on,’ he concluded. What a dedicated actor, we’d be shouting for the first aid kit!
The ACL (Anterior cruciate ligament) is one of the key ligaments that helps to stabilise the knee joint and is commonly torn as a result of sudden pivoting during activity. After a tear, it is recommended that the person rest to recover.
Rob’s efforts were worth it as the film made $38.7 million at the box office. The hit followed Danny and Debbie as they began a new relationship but things get complicated when they seek advice from their disapproving friends played by James Belushi and Catherine Keener.
Rob, who also worked with Demi on the 1985 movie, St. Elmo’s Fire, credits her for inspiring his sobriety.
‘I just remember thinking, “If that girl can get sober, anybody can”,’ Rob shared on The View. Rob has been sober since 1990.
