‘Why are they trendy?’ Fashion fans slam new ‘school run’ coat but others don’t care if they ‘penguin waddle’ in theirs

THEY were created for people to change into after a cold dip in the sea.

But you’re likely to see more dryrobes on the school run than the beach these days.

Fashion fan Lucy was among those slamming the new trend, as she took to TikTok to have her say.

Sharing promotional images of people wearing dryrobes, she wrote over the top: “When I see people walking about Tesco in these…”

“Why are they trending?” she captioned her post, alongside the hashtag #ick.

And she wasn’t the only one who isn’t a fan of the latest trend.

“Finally someone said it,” one wrote.

“Everyone at school pick ups wearing them as well,” another added.

With someone else agreeing: “Literally all of them past my window like a waddle of penguins!”

“This!! It’s the parents’ uniform at my son’s school” someone else said.

“I’ve seen ‘rugby’ moms in these,” another commented.

“They’re the new ‘I’m a Range Rover mum’.”

“Pink and camo dry robe, 2011 white Evoque,” someone else laughed.

“I’m very possessive over my Dry Robe which is used only for its intended purpose of getting dry and dressed after open water swimming,” another wrote.

“I know it’s gatekeeping but it winds me up seeing them in Asda!”

But someone else agreed: “It’s my pet peeve when people wear them out!

“Wear them to the beach and that’s it!”

However, others defended the dryrobe trend, with many insisting they care about “comfort over fashion”.

“They are comfy and warm, who cares about looking cool to strangers?” one insisted.

“I don’t get why it matters?!” another wrote.

“Like genuinely I don’t get it, staying warm & dry sounds like a good idea!”

“Love my dryrobe, no Fs given,” a third commented.

“Why does it matter what coat someone’s wearing though?”someone else said.

“There’s enough judgement on everyone’s lives.

” I’m sure we can avoid scrutinising them further!”

“Won’t have nothing said against my fab Dryrobe,” another raged.

As someone else commented: “I love them. Comfort over fashion!”

In a product description on the dryrobe website, they write of their camo and pink design: “The original weatherproof changing robe, dryrobe® Advance has become an essential piece of kit for cold water enthusiasts, elite athletes and outdoor adventurers across the world.

“Its iconic design combines a durable waterproof outer with a super-warm inner that will protect you from the elements, whilst giving you enough space to change in and out of a wetsuit, swimwear or sports kit.”
