Queen Elizabeth II appearing in the clouds on television is wild even by WWE standards.

On Friday Night SmackDown this week, tag team Pretty Deadly – made up of Englishmen Kit Wilson and Elton Prince – were trying to hype each other up when they were inspired by a surprise cameo from the late monarch, who died aged 96 in September 2022.

In the skit, the two superstars were sat by a lake with Kit feeling down in the dumps as he nursed his injured fingers after last week’s match against Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate.

Elton tried to cheer his pal up, and even pointed to a cloud that looked just like the Queen – and indeed, an image of her face was visible in the sky, with regal music and a gleaming smile.

He referred to her as Lizzie, before turning his attention to his friend’s injury, insisting Pete Dunne should be ashamed and telling his partner they need to show exactly what they can do.

It was a bizarre segment, with fans shocked by the reference to the Queen and her face appearing in the clouds.

‘Add “Ghost of Queen Elizabeth II” to the things I didn’t expect to see on WWE television. #SmackDown,’ tweeted @TheRealWB, while fellow X user @Tripticon500 asked: ‘Why they got the Queen’s ghost on #SmackDown 💀’

Fair question, and one we might never get an answer to.

Although some fans expected people to ‘kick off’ about the skit, the response has largely been one of total bemusement, and some laughs at the bizarre nature of it all.

‘Queen Elizabeth was actually in the cloud 😂😂💀 Pretty Deadly are wild for that 😂 #Smackdown,’ wrote @Crazy101, and @ThomsFTD added: ‘Pretty deadly talking to the Queen as a cloud has made my week 😭🤣 #SmackDown’

‘PRETTY DEADLY ARE SO MAGNIFICENT THEY GOT QUEEN ELIZABETH TO BE IN CLOUDS!!! #Smackdown,’ hailed @TheNovFreeze, as @karanjaking2 said: ‘Really didn’t think I was going to see Queen Lizzy as a cloud tonight 😭 #SmackDown’

When the Queen died in September 2022, WWE paid a simple and poignant tribute to her just days later on SmackDown, with a photo of Her Majesty.

Veteran broadcaster Michael Cole said: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, the world lost a legend yesterday, a larger than life woman who was part of some massive moments in history over the past century but also carried herself with dignity and grace – Queen Elizabeth.’

His co-commentator Corey Graves added: ‘We at WWE would like to extend our condolences to the entire Royal Family and the millions whose lives she touched around the world.’

WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on TNT Sports 1.
