‘Lovely sparkle’ fashion fans say about ‘sapphire’ earrings from M&S that look just like Princess Diana’s

A PAIR of earrings that look just like Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire studs are on sale for £22.50.

The blue stones from Marks & Spencer’s “have a nice sparkle to them”, shoppers have said.

The Platinum Blue Stud Earrings have a blue stone centre and are circled by silver gems, just like Diana’s legendary studs.

It is believed that the royal sapphire earrings were worth approximately £28,500 when they were first purchased in the Eighties.

The M&S style is, of course, a fraction of the price at £28,477.50 cheaper.

“These platinum plated studs have a single blue stone centre and are surrounded by single smaller silver stones all around the stud,” M&S bosses said.

They added that the jewels are “perfect for any occasion”.

Diana’s sapphire earrings were a gift from King Charles to mark their engagement in 1981.

The Princess of Wales showed the earrings off on various occasions, including during a visit to Australia in 1983 and at the Met Gala in 1996.

She also wore them during the iconic dance she shared with John Travolta at the White House and for a performance of Mozart‘s opera The Marriage of Figaro at the Munich Opera House on an official visit.

They were later passed on to Diana and Charles’ eldest son, Prince William.

The Duke of Cambridge had the earrings remodelled from a stud style to a hanging earring and gifted them to Kate Middleton shortly after their engagement.

Over the years, the Duchess of Cambridge has honoured Diana by wearing her jewellery.

And now, shoppers can pick up cheaper versions of the regal style thanks to M&S Collection.

The studs have received rave reviews from happy shoppers, with one saying the “sparkly blue” stones yield plenty of compliments.

“I really love these faux sapphire earrings,” one buyer said.

“They have a nice sparkle to them.

“They’re easy to wear and fit snugly – very comfortable.”

She added that the jewels are “great value for money”.
