Michael McIntyre’s Big Show has been accused of breaking BBC guidelines after AJ Odudu promoted the benefits of a phone.
On Saturday’s night episode of the variety series, Big Brother host AJ put herself forward for the Send to All segment.
A beloved part of the show, the segment involves Michael taking a celebrity’s phone and sending a usually awkward text message to all of their contacts and at the end of the show, the host shares what replies have been received.
But before he got hold of the device, Michael remarked that he was surprised she didn’t own an iPhone after AJ held it up and explained she needed a sturdy phone.
‘It’s a Google Pixel because a few years ago I [switched] because with iPhones every time I dropped them, the screen would smash.
‘Five times in one week I dropped my phone and smashed it.

‘It was five consecutive days and I thought, “I can’t have this. I need a sturdier screen”.’
Then demonstrating her faith in the product, AJ soon after threw her phone down to Michael on the stage.
However, some viewers pointed out they believed her comments about the Pixel were promoting the product and therefore in breach of the national broadcasters’ rules.
‘AJ does a television commercial for the Google Pixel phone. This is on the BBC. What’s all that about?’ Greg Scott posted on X.
‘AJ Odudu spoke about her Google Pixel phone being better than an iPhone for about a minute. Clearly against their guidelines… interested to see what they say as we were agog!’ user Lucie Toblerone shared.
She was previously the face of the Google Pixel phone
Surely this kind of blatant plugging of a particular product is not allowed on the BBC?’ Elis added.
The Big Brother co-host was the face of Google Pixel from 2022 to 2023.
BBC guidelines state that ‘no on-air talent should promote products, goods, services or clothing they use’.
However, in a statement to Metro.co.uk, a BBC spokesperson said: ‘Ahead of broadcast of the programme, it was confirmed to the BBC that AJ Odudu was no longer under contract to promote any smartphone related organisations.’
Metro.co.uk has contacted representatives for AJ Odudu for comment.
Michael McIntyre’s Big Show airs Saturdays at 6.50pm on BBC One.
