Sir Rod Stewart has claimed that he doesn’t know a single Ed Sheeran song in a savage burn.
Ed, 32, has released some of the biggest hits in recent history since his debut single, The A Team, in 2012, including Perfect, Thinking Out Loud and Bad Habits.
It was almost impossible to go out and not hear Shape of You blasting out of every shop, club, restaurant and bar at one point – but this appears to have skipped Sir Rod by, as he couldn’t name a single track.
Yes, seriously.
In a new interview, the I Don’t Want To Talk About It singer, 79, was asked for his thoughts on current music and suggested that his fellow musician’s offerings wouldn’t stand the test of time.
Discussing his favorite tracks of all time and whether ‘timeless’ songs are still being released that will ‘be played in 50 years’, the music icon didn’t hold back.

‘I’m sure they are,’ he insisted to the Times. ‘I like whatshisname. Oh f**king great, Rod. Well done. He’s British, really talented and his songs will be around. Erm…’
When asked if he meant Ed, he continued: ‘No, not Ed, I don’t know any of his songs, old ginger b******s. Jesus …’
Over to you, Ed…
After singing a few bars of Shotgun and recalling the singer as George Ezra, Sir Rod enthused: ‘I think he writes really tremendous songs. He’ll be around for quite a while.’

‘We were brave in those days to go into the music business,’ he said of his own decades-long career. ‘We didn’t know where it would take us but record companies were different. They would give you a try. Also, the people I came up with – the Stones, Elton – we all came into it because we loved the music. Money and fame didn’t factor – it was a burning ambition to sing.
‘That may have changed. Now it’s more, “Ooh, let’s have a go at music. I don’t even have to play well. Maybe I’ll get rich.” Fame comes before everything. All kids want is fame.’
Sir Rod’s comments come after it was revealed that Ed would be going in a slightly different direction with an upcoming release, and will be tapping into his metal side.
In fact, he has teamed up with Cradle of Filth for a track on their upcoming album, with frontman Dani Filth confirming the news.

While chatting to Polish YouTube channel Pełna Kulturka, he offered an update on any ‘surprises’ fans could expect from their record.
‘Well, one of the surprises, obviously, but it’s not so much a surprise is that we’ve got a song that we have Ed Sheeran guesting on,’ Dani teased.
‘People have heard it and loved it. But it is what you imagine – it’s Cradle Of Filth and it’s Ed Sheeran. It sounds like Ed Sheeran, it sounds like Cradle Of Filth. There’s a blast beat in it.’
Bring it on – we think?
