A BBC presenter was left red faced after accidentally ruining a big family surprise in an epic live blunder.

Kawser Quamer had a bit of a howler on Friday when she casually started chatting about her niece’s surprise birthday party, and it was all too late when she suddenly realise what she’d done.

She had just finished her weather report for the weekend when North West Tonight star Annabel Tiffin called her over to the sofa for a natter at the end of the broadcast.

Annabel asked: ‘So, what have you got [coming] up at the weekend? Anything exciting?’

‘My niece’s surprise birthday party,’ Kawser replied, without really missing a beat, and she didn’t clock her mistake until her co-star spelled it out, adding: ‘Oh, that’s lovely… but not a surprise if she’s watching this?’

In an iconic few seconds, Kawser looked mortified, let out a perfect ‘oh goodness me’, tried to shush viewers in an attempt to keep the secret alive, and then burst out laughing, thankfully seeing the funny side of the mishap.

Hopefully her niece wasn’t tuning in this time, and that it’s still full steam ahead for the surprise.

Viewers absolutely loved the whole ordeal, with viewers @bongoeyes writing: ‘It gets funnier the more times you watch it 😂😂😂,’ which we can absolutely confirm.

‘This is DELIGHTFUL – have a great weekend all xxxx,’ tweeted BBC News’ creative director Chris Cook, while BBC South West journalist Alastair Monk added: ‘This is just brilliant. In a time of so much stress, just enjoy.’

‘Kawser’s reaction! 😂,’ laughed Annabel herself as the video started doing the rounds on X, while critic and broadcaster Scott Bryant also shared the clip before noticing an issue with it going viral.

He wrote: ‘Just realised that me sharing this on Twitter means that EVEN MORE PEOPLE know about her niece’s surprise party fml.’

Specsavers may have missed a trick with no pun-filled post, but the eyewear brand’s official account summed things up rather succinctly with a simple ‘oops’.

‘I have so been there,’ admitted viewer @cardboardco0kie, presumably meaning ruining a surprise party rather than doing so in front of the entire North West (and now rest of the country).

And @harrydole96 said: ‘I love human moments like this 🤣’
