Baftas address security breach after stage invader interrupts Oppenheimer moment-Alistair McGeorge-Entertainment – Metro

Bafta has insisted it is taking a security breach during Sunday’s ceremony ‘very seriously’.

The organisation has responded after a man believed to be a YouTuber was seen on stage during the acceptance speech for best film, which was awarded to Oppenheimer.

Director Christopher Nolan, actor Cillian Murphy, and producers Emma Thomas and Charles Roven were on stage to accept the prize, when they were joined by a stage invader.

The man didn’t try to speak or make any gestures, and simply stood on stage behind the two honourees.

A spokesman for Bafta told the BBC: ‘A social media prankster was removed by security last night after joining the winners of the final award on stage.

‘We are taking this very seriously, and don’t wish to grant him any publicity by commenting further.’

The individual is yet to post about the stunt on TikTok or YouTube, but Variety has claimed they have previously carried out similar stunts at the Brits, Mobo Awards and even the Ballon d’Or.

He ran up the stairs to join the quartet on stage as they went up to collect their trophy.

The speech started with Emma encouraging other cast members to come up on stage, as she said: ‘Where are you? Come on, all of you!’

The unnamed intruder joined in the applause and was seen walking off stage at the same time as the group after their speech.

Although host David Tennant and Back To The Future legend Michael J. Fox – who presented the award – were on stage, no one involved seemed to interact with him.

Viewers were delighted to see Michael, 62, at the ceremony after he first walked on the red carpet hours earlier, using wife Tracy Polin to support himself.

Michael, 62, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991, and as a result, the legend is rarely seen at these huge awards shows or other events.

Fans were shocked that not only did he attend the celebration but also headed into the spotlight as he presented Oppenheimer with the crown.

After using a wheelchair in his entrance, everyone was in tears as he stepped up to the podium with some aid from an assistant.

The Teen Wolf star looked incredibly well as he smiled and joked before announcing the nominees and eventually Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb biopic as the night’s top film.
