Prepare yourselves for the most British outrage you will ever come across, thanks to David Beckham and his appearance at the 2024 Baftas.
The England footie icon left BBC viewers raging when he presented an award on Sunday evening, during which time he referred to his own sport, football, by the American term ‘soccer’.
Walking out on stage to rapturous applause and cheers, Becks, 48, was all smiles.
He looked typically dapper in a black tux and bow tie, having been invited to hand out the award for outstanding debut by a British writer, director, or producer.
The trophy was taken home by Earth Mama, a drama film directed and written by Savanah Leaf, based on the short film The Heart Still Hums by Savanah and Taylor Russell.
Introducing the nominees, David said: ‘They say that practise makes perfect.

‘Well, that might be true in football, or soccer, but it’s not true for the filmmakers nominated for outstanding debut. They got it right first time.’
His use of ‘soccer’ certainly didn’t go unnoticed, as viewers fumed about his clarification being unnecessary due to the Baftas being ‘British’.
Taking to X to vent, user quandromache raged: ‘”that might be true in football, or soccer-” DAVID BECKHAM YOU ARE ON THE BAFTAS DON’T YOU DARE PANDER TO THE AMERICANS!!!’
‘David Beckham it’s a British awards show, you don’t need to mention soccer’, wrote jesshoskingx.
‘Don’t you dare say soccer, David. Who even are you?’, blasted rozlaws.
It’s safe to say that wasn’t the only Baftas moment that got social media talking.
One major headline-grabbing moment actually came from the red carpet when Andrew Scott was interviewed by a BBC reporter asking some very inappropriate questions.
Social media users slammed the interaction as ‘homophobic’ when the Fleabag star was quizzed on his thoughts about Barry Keoghan’s manhood.
‘Do you know Barry well?’, asked the reporter, who has been identified as Colin Paterson.
Andrew, 47, smiled in response, confirming they were pals.

The interview swiftly took a turn, though, with Andrew squirming as the interviewer asked: ‘Can I ask your reaction when you first saw the naked dance scene at the end of Saltburn?’
Andrew was more than happy to try and dodge the question about his friend’s full-frontal nudity, tutting in response.
The reporter then requested his answer be ‘spoiler free’.
‘I don’t want to spoil it for anybody,’ Andrew said as he tried to get himself out of the situation.
However, the interviewer persisted.
‘There is a lot of talk about the prosthetics…’, he asked.
Andrew was then keen to walk away, pulling a face as the interviewer laughed: ‘Too much, too much?’
