Louis Theroux has paid tribute to porn star Kagney Linn Karter, who starred in one of his documentaries, after she died by suicide aged 36.

The late actress appeared in many adult films, and was interviewed by Louis for BBC documentary Twilight of the Porn Stars, in 2012.

The broadcaster has now taken to social media with a tribute to Karter, after her death was announced last week.

‘Very sad to learn of the death of porn star Kagney Linn Karter,’ Louis began.

‘I interviewed her in 2012 for a BBC documentary (still on iPlayer in the UK) – she was kind and thoughtful and v honest. My thoughts are with her friends and family.’

TMZ reported Karter was found at her Ohio home, and her cause of death was a shotgun wound.

Karter’s family have since started a GoFundMe page, which has so far raised $20,000 (£15,808) at the time of writing, to help pay for her memorial.

In 2012, Karter opened up about her job in the entertainment industry for the BBC documentary, which followed on from Louis’ 1998 Weird Weekend series, in which he investigated the world of male porn stars.

In the BBC show – still on BBC iPlayer – Louis went to visit Karter, and she told him about her live show she was preparing for.

‘It’s just something I do maybe once or twice a month,’ she said, before heading off to get ready, while Louis talked to her boyfriend Montae Weathers, who expressed not wanting her to do certain things on camera.

Later in the episode, she said of her work: ‘I definitely want to do another seven years and by then I think that me and Montae will retire.

Everything I choose to do, and whatever I might do is to secure a better future for us. I’m always thinking about the future.

‘Sometimes it’s kind of wearing, and I tell Montae, “I’m sorry that I’m always so concerned about money and things like that,” but for me it’s just really important that one day I don’t have to do this anymore.’

Montae added: ‘Some of the women that are involved, they don’t have 10 year plan, it’s more about getting their pay cheque.’

He continued: ‘It’s not like that with her, she actually has a plan of action.’

Asked by Louis whether she had damage in her life, Karter responsed: ‘For sure. I’ve got a lot of damage. My father has been incarcerated my whole life, then he had a major drug problem.’

Louis then asked whether this had anything to do with her getting into the porn industry, and Karter responded: ‘Absolutely not. I don’t think that at all. Everyone has problems, everyone. I got into porn because I wanted to get into porn.’

After first beginning her career as an exotic dancer in the noughties, Karter moved to California to pursue a singing career.

She then began her career in the adult film industry, taking home many awards includingthe best new starlet trophy at the AVN Awards in 2010.

Karter eventually turned her back on the industry after moving to Ohio, and went on to build her own pole dancing studio.

Fans were in shock at the news of her death, as Karter had not long ago shared pictures of herself on holiday in Florida.

In what is now her final Instagram post, she could be seen posing on the beach in a pink bikini, and captioned it with: ‘Hi from Florida.’

Followers have paid tribute to Karter on her social media, with one follower going by AskBryanNot wrote: ‘Just heard about her passing. This breaks my heart. She truly was one of the greatest and seemed so likable outside of her work. Rest in peace Kagney.’

‘Such an heartbreaking news to heard that you are gone, RIP bunny queen Kagney [sic],’ Notllem.rj agreed.

Instagram user Hellatosis added: ‘She was a sweetheart. So sad to know she was struggling so badly.’
