Declan Donnelly found himself in a very uncomfortable – and seemingly agonising – position on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway last night.

During the opening episode of the ITV show, which is back for its final ever season, the presenting duo went head-to-head in a terrifying challenge.

Ant McPartlin and Dec were faced with having to climb up huge towers that were being levitated 125 feet in the air, ascending ladders to drop huge balls and reach the button at the top.

Of course, they were both wearing appropriate safety gear, including harnesses… but that proved a bit of a problem for Dec.

Ant, 48, was the first of the pair to reach the top and then get back to the ground to secure his win.

But as Dec, also 48, came down, viewers could see that he was in tremendous pain.

Stephen, who was dressed up as Dr Evil from Austin Powers, remarked into the microphone that Dec looked like he was ‘in pain’.

‘Is that pain because he’s lost?’ the 46-year-old quipped.

However, Ant then added: ‘No, I think he’s in genuine pain Stephen.’

Dec hobbled as a member of the crew hastened to get him out of his harness, which was clearly at the root of his agony.

‘Are you serious?’ Stephen asked, as Ant replied breathlessly: ‘Yeah.’

Ant then called over to his co-star, asking him: ‘Are you ok?’

‘Yeah,’ Dec replied. ‘Are you sure?’ Ant asked again. ‘Yeah,’ was the response.

Then realising what had happened, Ant posed another question.

‘Did you get a ball stuck?’ he wondered aloud. ‘Yeah,’ Dec then answered, as the audience at Saturday Night Takeaway laughed at the admission.

Ouch!

Thankfully, Dec’s pain didn’t stop him from joining Ant and Stephen, as his co-presenter was announced as the winner of the latest Ant vs Dec challenge.

Several viewers sympathised with the TV star’s pain.

‘Bless Dec. He’s really hiding how much his balls are hurting right now,’ Sohail wrote on X.

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway returns on Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
