Jeremy Clarkson was reported to police after it was alleged that badger setts on his land had been illegally filled in, it’s been claimed.

Earlier this month, the TV presenter – who appears on programmes including Clarkson’s Farm and The Grand Tour – revealed that he had been visited by police.

The 63-year-old denied claims that he had filled in badger setts on his land, stating that he had shot the badgers while adding that it was ‘legal’ for him to do so.

However, a new update has alleged that five videos were recorded that appeared to show a badger’s den that had been blocked off with rocks, seemingly to prevent a fox from gaining access.

According to The Telegraph, Lynn Sawyer of the Three Counties Hunt Saboteurs claimed to have found badger setts that had been ‘handblocked’.

She added that Clarkson ‘may not have known it had been done’ on his land.

‘We are not picking on Clarkson. Instead we are trying to protect badgers from being persecuted and killed. We do not discriminate,’ she stated.

Sawyer filmed several setts that had been allegedly blocked using stones, which can be used as a method to prevent foxes from taking refuge in the dens during illegal hunts.

On the website for the Badger Trust, it states that it is a crime for badger setts to be damaged either accidentally or intentionally.

‘Badger sett blocking by developers, landowners and forestry workers is a criminal activity and must be reported to Badger Trust and the local police authority immediately,’ it outlines.

Earlier this month, Clarkson wrote in his column for The Sun about being reported to the police and denied that he filled in badger setts on his land.

The TV personality said that that ‘police came round to say I’d been reported for filling in badger setts’.

He continued: ‘That is a serious criminal offence which can result in big fines and lengthy prison sentences.

‘And if word leaked out that I’d been involved in such a thing, I’d be a social outcast.’

Clarkson then added: ‘Mercifully, however, I had the perfect excuse: “I’ve shot all the badgers on the farm so why would I want to fill in their setts?”

‘And yes, before you ask, it was all legal.’
