Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming has hit back at claims her actor husband has ‘no more joy’ left in his life after his recent dementia diagnosis.
The Die Hard actor, 68, initially retired from acting in 2022 after being told he had aphasia, which is classed as an inability to comprehend language because of damage to specific brain regions.
Months later, in February 2023, the Armageddon star’s family announced he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), which is the second most common form of the disease after Alzheimer’s.
Now Emma, 45, has hit out at reports that her husband has ‘no more joy’ in his life, taking to Instagram to criticise ‘clickbait’ headlines that misrepresent her husband’s day-to-day life.
She said: ‘It’s Sunday morning and I’m triggered. I just got clickbaited. I’m just scrolling, minding my own business, and just saw a headline – and got clickbaited – that had to do with my own family.
‘The headline basically there is no more joy in my husband. Now I can just tell you that is far from the truth. I need society, and whoever is writing these stupid headlines, to stop scaring people.’
She continued: ‘[People will think] once they get a diagnosis of some kind of neuro-cognitive disease that that’s it, it’s over. Let’s pack it up. Nothing else to see here. We’re done. No, it is the complete opposite.’
Bruce’s friend Glenn Gordon Caron, who directed episodes of 80s TV series Moonlighting where Bruce made his big break, said he was no longer ‘totally verbal’ or able to read, but that he was ‘still Bruce’.

Since the FTD diagnosis, Bruce’s family – including ex-wife Demi Moore – are said to have rallied around him, while Emma, who Bruce married in 2009, providing the most care.
Emma, a British-American former model born in Malta, later gave insight into what life is actually life while taking care of her husband, who appeared in over 100 films during his career.
‘There is grief and sadness, there’s all of that. But you start a new chapter, and that chapter is filled with love, it’s filled with connection, it’s filled with joy and happiness. That’s where we are.’
In the caption, she added: ‘We are being educated by the wrong people, who have an opinion versus an experience. People that have not taken the time to properly educate themselves.
‘Why can I be so bold and say that? Because I see headline after headline and blurbs of misinformation. I’m not even talking about my family. I’m just talking about baseline dementia awareness and what’s being fed to the public.’
On Valentine’s Day this year, Emma provided an emotional, poignant update as she paid tribute to her actor husband, sharing a photo of a tender moment between them and saying ‘love is a beautiful thing’.
The couple were married 15 years ago and have two children together, while Emma is also step-mum to Bruce’s three daughters with Demi.
