The estate of Sinead O’Connor has slammed Donald Trump for using her music at his political rallies in a scathing statement, claiming she would be ‘disgusted and insulted’ by the move.

The former President is currently campaigning for a second term in the White House, after he was ousted by current US leader, Joe Biden.

The controversial politician – who scored a major victory with a Supreme Court ruling this morning – has been playing Nothing Compares 2 U at campaign events in the lead up to the 2024 election.

However, this decision has sparked fury from the late singer’s team, with her record label also demanding that he ‘desist from using her music immediately’.

In a message, they said that the music icon, who died last year, ‘lived by a fierce moral code’, and had referred to Trump as a ‘biblical devil’.

‘Throughout her life, it is well known that Sinead O’Connor lived by a fierce moral code defined by honesty, kindness, fairness, and decency towards her fellow human beings,’ the statement, via Associated Press, said.

‘It was with outrage therefore that we learned that Donald Trump has been using her iconic performance of Nothing Compares 2 U at his political rallies.

‘It is no exaggeration to say that Sinead would have been disgusted, hurt and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone who she herself referred to as a “biblical devil”.

‘As the guardians of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates desist from using her music immediately.’

O’Connor released her version of Nothing Compares 2 U, a cover of Prince’s original hit, in 1990 and was instantly shot to superstardom.

She was famous for being outspoken on her views until her death last year, at the age of 56.

Rihanna, Steven Tyler, Phil Collins, Linkin Park, Neil Young and The Smiths’ Johnny Marr are some of the other famous faces who have demanded that Trump stops using their music throughout his run for President.

Earlier today, he scored a huge win as it was ruled that he must be restored to ballots around the country, after some US states – including Maine and Colorado – attempted to bar him from their votes.

The judgement passed in a 9-0 vote, marking a huge blow for states hoping to disqualify the former leader from their ballots.

‘States may not unilaterally disqualify Donald Trump from the ballot’, reads the judgement.

Although Trump has remained silent over the statement from O’Connor’s estate, he celebrated the news of the vote on his Truth Social platform, simply cheering: ‘BIG WIN FOR AMERICA!!!’
