Taking to TikTok, one mum, Annie, demonstrated how she brings the family’s collection of white socks ”back to life” with almost no effort.

According to the cleaning enthusiast, the hack is so good it’s been an ”absolute game changer”.

To prove just how effective the cleaning method is, Annie shared the tutorial using her son’s and hubby’s dirty white socks, and the first key step was putting the items inside a bowl which she then covered with boiling hot water.

Once the socks have been submerged, Annie showed in the video, chuck in one Milton tablet, which is typically used to sterilise all kids’ toys.

After letting the tablet fizzle up, your once-clear water should turn slightly brown, as all of the dirt is coming out.

”Then you’re gonna add two scoops of any Oxy powder whitening, and then you’re gonna use this Ace Ultra for Whites solution.”

The latter can be purchased from most supermarkets and retailers, including the Range, where 1l bottle is selling for £1.99, whilst rival Amazon offer the same product for £2.00.

Raving about the bargain buy, the mum said: ”It is so good, love it so much.”

After using around 225ml of the cleaning solution, Annie gave it all a good mix to ensure every sock had been saturated properly.

According to the savvy mum, who posts under the username @annieblackmurx, fellow cleaning fans should then let the solution do its magic for roughly an hour.

Checking out the progress the recommended time later, Annie was gobsmacked just by how ”disgusting” the water now was, before completing the final step of the method.

”After you’ve emptied the water from the bucket and squeezed the socks out, then put it into the washing machine.”

Sharing the incredible makeover on her page, Annie couldn’t believe the difference – the socks looked as good as new.

”Voila, look at these bad boys. Fresh, clean white socks.

”Absolute game changer!! Bring them socks back to life,” she added in the caption.

Since being posted on the popular platform just two days ago, the clip has already racked up over a whopping 900k views.

However, as dozens flocked to comments to share their thoughts, the response was mixed – and some insisted it would’ve ”been cheaper to buy more socks”.

One agreed, writing: ”60 degree wash with a bit of oxy powder white, socks come out very clean, no need for all this faff unless you enjoy it of course!”

Someone else shared their method: ”My mother used to boil our socks on the stove to make them whiter.”

Another penned: ”Put the outside, wet, on a very cold night. They freeze and it draws all the dirt out. Works with any white cotton.”

A fellow cleaning fan chimed in: ”Will definitely be trying this, thank you!”
