Step out of the way oversized tailoring, it’s time to re-embrace the waist
IT’s time to revisit the high-rise waist – after years of sizing up to look chic, this season boxy styles are out and cinched waists are in.
Impeccably tailored blazers with slender belts graced the S/S ’24 catwalks – think Prada, Max Mara and Saint Laurent to name a few.

A cinched-in blazer is an easy and affordable way to elevate your everyday street style.
Fashion fans everywhere are replicating this look and waving goodbye to last year’s larger-than-life voluminous blazers.
Here’s how our fashion team are getting the look with the newest pieces on the high street.

This season’s denim take on nipped-in tailoring is a look I’m really loving, because I’ve got a petite frame and accentuating my waist helps to make my torso appear elongated.
I’m a sucker for double denim, so it was a no-brainier to pair this belted jacket with the matching mid-rise jeans.
It’s safe to say I’ve been inspired by the viral coastal cowgirl trend (thanks Beyonce!) and these boots from River Island definitely fit the brief – with tassel details to die for.
But if you’re going for a smarter vibe, you could pair this blazer with some smarter trousers or a maxi-skirt and sling-back heels for an office-appropriate outfit.

Skirt, £39.99, Reserved – BUY NOW
Shirt, £49, French Connection – BUY NOW
Boots, £59.99, Stradivarius – BUY NOW
Belt, £4.50, Primark – RESERVE NOW
A belt really is a must-have accessory in everyone’s wardrobe.
As well as stating the obvious and helping clothes fit better, it’s got to look good too while it’s giving your outfit shape.
While this maxi-skirt and shirt combo does still flatter my figure, adding a belt cinches me in every so slightly more and the contrasting colour helps break up the look.
I’m loving this skirt from Reserved, and while I can wear it now with a shirt for the office, it would also look good with sandals and a cami on my summer holiday – plus, it also comes with a matching top if you do want to make it a co-ord.

Necklace, £23, Betty & Biddy – BUY NOW
I rarely wear anything nipped-in as I’m not blessed with a defined waist or hips, and have a short torso – something that was confirmed when I had my wedding dress made.
So, when it comes to trying to created a more hourglass silhouette, I work with what I like and what I’m comfortable in, which is jeans and a blazer.
The sharp shoulders and tailored waist of this beautiful H&M Studio jacket help create a gorgeous waist.
I always try to enhance this further with a pair of wide-leg, high-rise jeans (PS: There are trousers to match this jacket if you want to rock a full power suit.)

Bag, £24.99, New Look – BUY NOW
Shoes, £135, Cos – BUY NOW
As someone who lives in “mannish” clothes, this new silhouette feels like a return to the ’80s for me, so it surprises me that I kind of dig it!
This Aligne suit has sold out a few times already, after everyone went crazy for it on Instagram.
What I love about it is that the cut actually gives me a waist, which after two kids I am not naturally blessed with, and it flairs out over my hips to give a curvier shape.
It also comes with a nipped-in waistcoat version if that is more your vibe.
I have teamed it with statement earrings and Cos scuba shoes – I love the fact that I can wear it for work, but also it would look great for a wedding, the races and rooftop cocktails once the weather picks up.
