Kate Garraway’s absence from Good Morning Britain has been explained by her co-stars.

The 56-year-old left her Smooth Radio show during a broadcast on Wednesday, which led to some concern from fans. She then didn’t appear on the ITV daytime show on Thursday, and her replacement Ranvir Singh sent well wishes.

On today’s episode of the ITV show, Charlotte Hawkins explained why she wasn’t back in her hosting seat.

‘She would be here today but she’s lost her voice. She’s all well but she can’t speak,’ shared Kate.

Co-host Adil Ray interjected: ‘She’s lost her voice, she’s been too influential in the past year.’

‘I know, she obviously has been hasn’t she,’ responded Charlotte.

Adil then told Kate to be ‘less influential’, making reference that she was included in a list of 50 influential women on International Women’s Day, and to get better soon.

Kate returned to Good Morning Britain in February after taking time away following the tragic death of her husband Derek Draper. He died at the age of 56 almost four years after first contracting Covid-19 in January.

Speaking about her first day back at work, Kate said: ‘It’s lovely to be back here. It’s odd, I feel very weird. The makeup girls had me in tears this morning just by saying hello.

‘Thank you to all of you at home as well. You have been incredible. I keep saying, just treat me normally, everyone realises they don’t know how to anymore.’

She was criticised for laughing in an interview before making her full return, which she addressed.

‘I got a bit of flack on social media yesterday for laughing with you [Ben], as though that would imply I didn’t care.

‘But when you laugh, you’re laughing because you want the joy that that person brought… People watching at home have got troubles in their life and you want to share that joy with them.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 at 6am.
