Cillian Murphy had fans clutching at their hearts after his sweet dedications to his wife and children during his Oscars speech.
During last night’s Academy Awards, the actor became the first Irish-born actor to win the accolade for Best Actor, for his performance in the critically acclaimed Oppenheimer.
Cillian looked overcome with happiness as he graced the stage to receive his award, gracefully shaking hands with several other Hollywood A-listers before he reached the podium.
He then took the time in his speech to declare his love for his wife of 20 years Yvonne McGuinness and his two sons, who were also in attendance… and our hearts honestly can’t take it.
‘I’m a little overwhelmed. Thank you to the Academy. Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas, it’s been the wildest, most exhilarating, most creatively, satisfying journey you’ve taken me on over the last 20 years. I owe you more than I can say, thank you so much,’ he began.
‘Every single crew member, every single cast member on Oppenheimer you guys carried me through. All my fellow nominees, I remain in awe of you guys, truly.’

The Peaky Blinders star continued: ‘I want to thank my incredible team. Big shout out to Craig Bankey, Brendan Murphy, Mary Murphy, Yvonne McGuinness, my partner in life and art, my two boys Malachy and Aran who are sitting up there, I love you so much and I’m a very proud Irishman standing here tonight.’
Cillian ended his speech by dedicating his win to the ‘peacemakers’ in the world.
‘You know, we made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb and for better or for worse we’re all living in Oppenheimer’s world, so I’d really like to dedicate this to the peacemakers everywhere,’ he said, before leaving the stage.

When Cillian’s win was announced, he and Yvonne shared a passionate kiss as the audience clapped and cheered.
Fans were left swooning over the actor’s display of love for his wife, with one called Nat writing on X: ‘Cillian Murphy’s first instinct after winning an Oscar is kissing his wife on national television where do I find a man like him.’
‘Crying screaming throwing up,’ Kitty wrote, after sharing a clip of Cillian and Yvonne kissing following his win announcement.
Their show of passion at the Oscars mimicked similar scenes at the Golden Globes, when Cillian accepted his prize on stage with lipstick all over his face.
While Cillian is the first Irish-born actor to win the Best Actor prize, Daniel Day-Lewis – who is English and also holds Irish citizenship – won three times before.
Irish actor Barry Fitzgerald won the Best Supporting Actor accolade in 1945, and was nominated in the same year for the Best Actor title.
