Oscars cause outrage with ‘shameful’ snub of late stars in tribute segment-Ruth Lawes-Entertainment – Metro
Viewers were shocked over the absences from the In Memoriam section.

The Oscars 2024 has sparked backlash after missing late actors including Angus Cloud and Lance Reddick from the In Memoriam section.
Academy Awards fans blasted the ceremony for being ‘shameful’ for snubbing the names of high-profile stars in the emotional and poignant section that is included every year.
As well as Euphoria star Cloud and John Wick actor Reddick, other performers missed from the tribute included Treat Williams, Terence Davies, Suzanne Somers, and Norman Lear.
Viewers of the glitzy event, that saw Oppenheimer win seven awards, raged on X about the notable absences from the In Memoriam section, with Peter Mann fuming: ‘Did they not mention Angus Cloud in the In Memoriam?! #Oscars for shame!’
Echoing Peter’s sentiment, account Highmay added: ‘#Oscars didn’t mention Angus Cloud, Even with Zendeya presenting an award. Very sad for someone who died so early into a promising career.’
Katie Baker, meanwhile, was baffled Reddick, who died from heart disease aged 60, was snubbed.

They raged: ‘The Oscars did not just leave Lance Reddick out of the in memoriam like whattttt t t t?????? ???? #Oscars.’
Account Film Optix Podcast also shared: ‘Lance Reddick was not a part of the In Memoriam during the #Oscars …? Yikes.’
The In Memoriam section of the ceremony opened with a clip of Alexei Navalny from the Oscar-winning documentary Navalny.

Accompanied by a performance of Time To Say Goodbye, performed by Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo, stars including Matthew Perry, Sir Michael Gambon, Harry Belafonte, Alan Arkin and Julian Sands were remembered.
Also featured were Andre Braugher, Tom Wilkinson, Glynis Johns, Jane Birkin, Ryan O’Neal, Robbie Robertson, Carl Weathers, Glenda Jackson, William Friedkin and Tina Turner.
The In Memoriam section wasn’t the only Oscars coverage to have been slammed by fans last night (Sunday March, 11).

Jonathan Ross, who was covering the Oscars on ITV in the UK, was branded as being ‘as funny as a fungal infection.’
‘This Jonathan Ross ITV pre Academy Awards coverage is utterly painful. Awful jokes, forced laughs from his few guests, HELL ON EARTH,’ Harrison Brock wrote on X.
This year’s Oscars saw Oppenheimer sweep the board with seven awards including best actor for Cillian Murphy and best director for Christopher Nolan, while Emma Stone was crowned best actress for the second time in her career.
