Wait, what did Emma Stone call Jimmy Kimmel at the Oscars?

Well, viewers are convinced she hurled an expletive at him following a dig the host made about her movie, Poor Things.

During his opening monologue, Jimmy – who hosted the ceremony for the fourth time – began with a joke about the show already being ‘five minutes behind’ due to a momentary delay caused by protesters calling for an immediate cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.

He went on to make digs at Madame Web following its box office flop, as well as joking about Greta Gerwig’s best director snub for Barbie, before catching heat for a Robert Downey Jr drug reference.

One moment during his stint as host that got social media talking, however, was when Jimmy, 56, got to addressing Emma’s role in the best picture nominee.

He joked: ‘Emma Stone played an adult lady with the brain of a child, kinda like the lady that gave the State of the Union rebuttal.’

Later on, after showing a clip from the movie, Jimmy quipped: ‘Those are all the parts of Poor Things we’re allowed to show on TV’, insinuating the flick was mostly sexual in nature.

The camera then panned to Emma, 35, in the audience, who looked less than impressed with the gag.

She turned to mouth something to her co-stars, who chuckled awkwardly.

What did she mouth? Well, X users reckon she was calling Jimmy a ‘p***k’.

A video of the short moment soon went viral, clocking up over 200,000 viewers in a matter of hours.

Championing fan account badpostestone wrote on X: ‘Emma, Emma Stone’s reaction to Jimmy Kimmel’s joke about poor things.. oh YEAH’.

‘what is with men saying disgusting things about women at award shows??’, asked loverglow13.

‘Emma Stone has never been more attractive than saying ‘he’s such a p***k’ about Jimmy Kimmel’, wrote NicholasJLevi.

Other viewers speculated that Emma could’ve been insulting Jimmy in a different way, but struggled to lip read exactly what she said.

‘i don’t think she said “he’s a p***k” but she should’ve’, said sambergloml.

‘I couldn’t make it out but she wasn’t happy about it!’, penned poofeyone.

Regardless, Emma has been hailed as ‘iconic’ for her remark, with others branding it ‘priceless camera work’ and declaring it ‘the highlight of my night’.

As well as Emma, Poor Things also stars Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe.

A synopsis for the comedy/sci-fi film reads: ‘Brought back to life by an unorthodox scientist, a young woman runs off with a lawyer on a whirlwind adventure across the continents.

‘Free from the prejudices of her times, she grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.’

Following major commercial success, Poor Things became one of the most buzzed-about movies this Oscar season, receiving 11 nominations.

These included acting nods for Emma and Mark.

The film had an incredible night at the 2024 ceremony, taking home three awards.

Veteran make-up specialist Mark Coulier was part of the team who won best make-up and hair for their work on the film, along with fellow UK colleagues Nadia Stacey and Josh Weston.

Shona Heath and James Price took the Academy Award for best production design, while Holly Waddington took best costume design.

The hat-trick of wins for UK talent comes just a few weeks after similar success for the same people at the Bafta film awards.
