Christian Bale was the definition of unrecognizable as Frankenstein’s monster in the first official pictures of The Bride.

The 50-year-old is leading the star-studded cast for the upcoming drama, alongside Jessie Buckley as his bride, Annette Bening, Penelope Cruz and Peter Sarsgaard.

He also reunited with his former Batman co-star, Maggie Gyllenhaal, for the project – which the latter is directing.

Taking to Instagram, she shared the first snaps from set ahead of the release next year, introducing us to Frankenstein and his bride.

Christian could be seen sporting the monster’s trademark scars across his forehead and chest in the black-and-white upload while also showing off an interesting tattoo.

He looked the furthest thing from his usual suave self, donning a light, pin-striped jacket and posed with his hand stroking a full head of hair.

His bride (Jessie) seemed equally creepy as she focused on something off camera, posing with a dark substance smeared across her face in a black outfit.

Alongside the stunning images, Maggie simply penned: ‘Meet The Bride & Frank 🖤 #TheBride #CameraTest #FirstLook #JessieBuckley #ChristianBale.’

The Bride marks her second stint in the director’s chair, as she also helmed The Lost Daughter – working alongside Jessie.

Little else is known about the plot, but the official log line reads: ‘A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr Euphronius in creating a companion for himself.

She also had a wild transformation for the role (Picture: WireImage)

‘The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born.

‘She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.’

Sadly, we have a wait to see how The Bride unfolds as it is set to be released on October 2, 2025.

However, this isn’t the only Frankenstein slated for the big screen as Guillermo del Toro is working on his own, separate project.

The Shape of Water filmmaker will be adapting the classic novel for Netflix, with Saltburn star Jacob Elordi nabbing the role of the iconic monster, after Andrew Garfield was forced to drop out over scheduling conflicts.

Oscar Isaac is set to play Dr Frankenstein while Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley Christian Convery, Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz are also in the line-up.

Bring on the battle of the Frankensteins.

The Bride is set to be released in cinemas on October 2, 2025.
