Vinted bosses reveal three-step formula to sell your items fast… including the little known setting to play around with

THERE’S a three step system to help your Vinted items sell quicker, bosses at the second-hand marketplace have revealed.

We all know the pain of thinking an item will sell but after having it on our profile for two months, it’s still sitting in the wardrobe.

It doesn’t have to be this way, though.

There’s lots of little tips and tricks you can take on board to make your items more appealing to buyers.

Vinted’s Help Centre recommends a three-step system – and bosses at the company shared a nifty setting you can fiddle with to further attract buyers.

Revamp Your Listing

If an item hasn’t sold but you’re convinced it’s a gem, it might be time to jazz up the listing.

“Update the photos in your listing to make sure the item is clearly visible in all its beauty,” Vinted bosses said.

“Improve the title and description too.

“This helps members find your item via search.”

You can also update certain listings to offer a discount on bundle items so that other Vinted users buy a few more things from you.

Build A Trustworthy Profile

It’s unlikely most of us would walk into a shop with a dodgy storefront – and the same theory applies to selling online.

If you don’t look legit and trustworthy on Vinted, people won’t want to part with their cash.

“Verify your account to build more trust with other members,” Vinted bosses said.

“Present yourself and your style briefly by filling in the ‘About You’ section in your profile.

“The description will be visible to the whole community.”

In the description, you can write about your style and the brands shoppers can expect to find when scrolling through your page.

New Vinted rules to be aware of

IF you fancy clearing out your wardrobe and getting rid of your old stuff on Vinted, you’ll need to consider the new rules that recently came into play.

If people are selling personal items for less than they paid new (which is generally the case for second-hand sales), there is no impact on tax.
However, since January 1, digital platforms, including eBay, Airbnb, Etsy, Amazon and Vinted, must share seller information with HMRC as part of a crackdown.
You’re unlikely to be affected if you only sell a handful of second-hand items online each year – generally, only business sellers trading for profit might need to pay tax.
A tax-free allowance of £1,000 has been in place since 2017 for business sellers trading for profit – the only time that an individual personal item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is a profit from the sale.
However, firms now have to pass on your data to HMRC if you sell 30 or more items a year or earn over £1,700.
It is part of a wider tax crackdown to help ensure that those who boost their income via side hustles pay up what they owe.
While your data won’t be shared with HMRC if you earn between £1,000 and £1,700, you’ll still need to pay tax as normal.

Get Noticed

Vinted has built in toggles to ‘bump’ your items to the top of search results – however, you do have to pay for this.

Bosses at the marketplace also recommended you upload new items regularly.

“Potential buyers will start following you and they’ll be notified when you add something new,” they said.

“Reduce the price of your items too.

“Members who follow you or who have favourited your items will be notified of the discount.”

And when you’re already in conversation with a potential customer, they recommended making an offer to them while you have their attention.

Secret Setting

There’s a setting you can adjust to attract more buyers, Vinted explains on its Help Centre.

Simply open the app, click profile, then settings and then postage to find it.

In the postage settings section, you can turn on all of the shipping options and give buyers more of an incentive to purchase from you.

“Offering more shipping options may also attract more buyers, as they will have more delivery choices,” Vinted explains.
