Primark drops £15 dupes of £850 flats that are ‘so on trend’ – but some shoppers insist they should ‘stay in 2006’

THE most popular shoes of the Noughties are back – but some who remember it from the first time round are outraged.

Once adored by Kate Moss and Amy Winehouse, ballet pumps were considered chic and styled with everything from smart dresses to jeans.

And if you haven’t been living under a rock, you may have noticed the likes of J-Lo, Sofia Richie and singer Billie Eilish posing in these kicks on red carpets and Instagram alike.

Never one to skip over a trend, Primark has dropped brand new ballerina pumps.

They’re not just any slip-on shoes though, they’re dupes for French fashion house Alaïa’s pricey pumps.

The fast fashion label’s Rita Ora Diamanté Ballet Flats, designed in collaboration with the How We Do singer, are dead ringers for Alaïa’s Strass Lambskin Ballet Flats.

The only difference is Primark’s shoes cost a cool £15, and the luxury ones cost £890.

They are available in a black or ‘light pink’ finish, with both hues embellished with sparkly diamantés.

Primark has also released dupes of Alaïa’s Fishnet Ballet Flats – which cost an eye-watering £650.

You can pick up the high-street versions for a cool £12 in either ‘camel’ or black.

Coco Chanel created the popular “Ballerinas” in 1957 and they later became a Noughties style staple.

When they died off, fashionistas never could have predicted they would be spring 2024’s hottest shoe – but they are.

So much so that style bible British Vogue dubbed them “the It-shoe of 2024” last month.

Primark’s social media team took to Instagram to show off its latest wall of ballerina pumps – with some shoppers declaring them “so on trend”.

“It’s a yes from me,” Nicole Q beamed.

“Tall girls rejoice,” Lauren Rose said.

“The black mesh ones are CRAZY comfy,” George Chivers added.

But some shoppers were outraged by their return – probably because they remember their Noughties pairs having wafer-thin soles and flimsy toe caps.

“These things should not make a return, ever!” Alex Byrne commented.

“It was fine in 2006 but that’s where they should stay.”

“Oh god, these are making a return into ‘fashion’… no thanks,” Lisa King echoed.

Other shoppers groaned that they “said goodbye to this style in 2004” and “never want it to come back”.

The flats are part of Primark’s second collection with Rita Ora, which launched in stores last month.

The first collection hit stores in September 2023 and had bumper success, with a focus on edgy pieces in darker hues and denim.

But the latest collection is tailored to spring, and (as well as controversial shoes) features an array of floral dresses, pastel suits and ruffled tops.
